You really think the Cardinals would rather not sign their 3rd round pick than give him guaranteed money like the players who went in the same part of the draft will get?

Well if Mathieu was so against that and decided to hold out, then your worst fears about his maturity are probably true and you should probably cut ties with him anyway

So it is immature to want a contract that actually benefits you? I think it would show more immaturity and stupidity to not get a signing bonus that compares with the other guys who were drafted around him.

Brilliant move by the Cardinals if they are able to sign him w/o any guaranteed money. And stupid move by TM and his agent.

How unfair to Mathieu? Now he cant smoke when a pretty decent percentage of his teammates will be blowing it up all around him...

If he only could have been drafted by the Broncos or the Seahawks...

I hope the best for him, I really do want him to succeed. This is the best scenario for him, and he realizes it. Time to get to work boi

15 years from now he can be a pothead. Now is the time to be a professional.

I think he'll be just fine.

I want Matheiu to do well but I doubt it happens. You can't tell me that year off didn't affect him.

Well hes had a billion chances and he never changed. Expecting him to change now is border-lining on insanity.

Really, a billion? If he hadn't said how many drug tests how would any of you have known? You folks are the best at throwing rocks while living in glass houses.

This. Arizona is probably the best place for him with a lot of LSU people around to help him out.

He idolizes PP.

Then why didn't he act like PP did while he was at LSU?

mo money > mo weed > no job > no money > no weed

by my calculations, he will have to quit weed at some point.

He had a lot of LSU people around him at LSU. Individual actions require individual decisions.

That is the problem; the Cardinals already know Mathieu can act idiotic.

I hope he does well. One thing I can say is he plays his heart out. I suspect he will stay clean. Good luck HB7

This isn't that big of a deal. The only real guaranteed money for NFL contracts is the signing bonus when it comes down to it so a lot of players actually have contracts that aren't guaranteed.

Well this is false...

@TBob53: just talked to @Mathieu_Era 's agent, all this talk of no guaranteed money is not true; contract negotiations have yet to begin.
