Right. For Marine's that pistol is a LONG tradition. It's understandable as long as you are being truthful about it and admit that it didn't have anything to do with it being a superior combat pistol and everything to do with emotional attachment and a deep support structure already built in for that pistol.
Can you not fricking read? You're literally going to sit their and tell me that Special Operations units are choosing to entrust their lives to the 1911 because they too have an "emotional attachment" to it? I'm not sure if I've ever seen such extreme levels of arrogance and ignorance combined into one person.
I suppose the LAPD and various other SWAT teams around the country, FBI HRT and FBI regional SWAT teams, Army Special Forces as well as Delta, DEVGRU, and various other elite units that I've repeatedly mentioned also chose to use the 1911 out of sentimentality? You're a moron.

That's hilarious. You don't have a clue.
Says the poster whose only argument is "18>9."
You're out of your fricking league, buddy.

I vote that 8 rounds of .45 (XDs) beats 8 or 9 rounds of 9mm (many single stack 9mms) but I would not go quite as far to say 9>18.

UHHHH OHHH WE GONNA SLAP DICKS ON THE TABLE NOW!!
If you had any idea what my background is in firearms you'd be pretty embarrassed going here.

That's a bit of hyperbole on my part only to counter the avalanche of horseshite he keeps throwing.

The distinction used to be a lot more than it is these days. That's why a lot of departments are going back to the 9mm from the 40.

I see that now. It was neither a jab at either person. I have zero fricks to give in this circle jerk.

What's your background? If you don't mind me asking?
I'm not getting into this argument I'm just curious.

No doubt that 9 rounds of .45 is better than 9 rounds of 9mil. But to say 9 rounds of .45 is better than 18 rounds of 9mil, that's just ignorant and ridiculous.

The distinction is smaller but still there. Notice, they are going from 40 to 9. Not 45 to 9. I would gladly take 1 less round for 70-80 more grains of bullet.

This dick measuring contest is pure entertainment for me. Slow day at the office.

I took today off for two finals tomorrow but looks like they will have to wait.

Civilian, but have two current Force Recon Marines in the family as well as an uncle who was a sniper with Force Recon in Vietnam, all of whom I've trained with extensively. I know firearms and I know how to use them effectively.

See my above post about using a bit of hyperbole.

Smart choice. I was initially involved, but my only argument was that I can't hit the broad side of a barn with much, other than a 1911. I have thoroughly enjoyed the shitstorm that has since stirred itself up.

Me too!
The funniest part to me about this is I've made it pretty clear from the beginning that I LOVE the 1911. I'd rather shoot it than any other semi auto pistol. But that doesn't change the equation when your life is on the line.
There was a study done on the NYCPD where it was discovered that they had an 18% hit rate in gun fights on average. Now they are 'trained' and they have to qualify regularly to carry. I know we all believe we shoot better than an NYCPD officer but you need to take that number into account dispassionately and realize what it means.
Gunfights don't go down like you hope. You may be planning on the average situation but that may just be the mistake that gets you killed.
There's just too many variables that you can't control. So why would you go into a fight with less ammunition in a pistol that is statistically more likely to malfunction? Don't tell me it's not, there's too many parts and every one of them is subject to failure. I don't care if you clean it every day. shite happens.
I'm just playing the numbers in my favor.
Now the fact is, whatever gun you have in your hand when a gunfight is happening is the greatest one for the job. But you can decide to increase your odds in your favor beforehand.

The funniest part to me is that you can't seem to grasp the fact that I've never argued that the 1911 is the ultimate choice for personal or home defense. I've only argued that it's more than adequate for both scenarios.

Why would I go into a fight with a pistol that I'm not comfortable using? It really is as simple as that.

I agree. I'm suggesting that total magazine capacity isn't the only factor to take into account when trying to increase your odds.
And as for the dick measuring contest comments, outside of my admittedly pissed off rant at 4 in the morning , I'm really not that aggravated and actually enjoy the argument. I've got no problem with Faxis, despite a few comments here and there.

I have a .45 that I cc everyday, but it is an XDs.

Same here. I'm just spinning you up to make my point about the Church of 1911. Coming from a family full of marines, you came by it honestly.

Tom I've been on the sidelines for the last few pages but have been following along. Wouldn't it be reasonable to say that comparing a SEAL's choice in weaponry (or any member of a Special Forces outfit, elite fighting unit, SWAT, etc.) to an ordinary citizen looking for home defense is an apples to oranges comparison? Meaning, those guys are transported by Humvee's and tanks. I go to work in a Chevy pickup everyday.
