OB: An old friend of mines manslaughter trial starts today

I went to elemetary school with this guy and was around him a good bit as a teen. He is accused of manslaughter in the death of his wife's ex husband. Hours after they were married, her ex showed up at their home and started an altercation. He then entered the home without permission and escalated it further and finally assaulted Jason. Jason then grabbed a gun and shot him dead after grappling with him for a while. It is a small town and obviously personal relationships have played a huge role in the prosecution. I don't know both sides of the story, only what the police report says and what I've heard. I haven't seen Jason in years. With the limited details that I know, it appears to be "stand your ground" all the way. But again, I don't know all the details. I wish him all the best and hope he comes out on top in this.
UPDATE: Trial has been postponed till tomorrow morning due to some lawyer involved not having their paperwork up to date as per Facebook.

Should have no influence over the decision anyways. I font care if its a midget that breaks into my house and starts to assault me. He will be stopped.

I agree, he should have never been charged. shite is seriously fricked up if he is found guilty. But with the ignorance of juries today, it wouldn't surprise me. This guy has been dealing with this for years. Its really hurt him career wise and cost him from spending the first few years of his marriage with his wife.

Yea it is.
Stories like this are why I do not have a CCL and may never get one.

it honestly sucks that the government gives people a reason to be scared to defend their lives.

you cant overlook the little people. they come from a very scrappy people. all aside if the guy assaulted him then he should be cleared, it was self defense

Yea.
I'd rather risk spending 2 months in the hospital instead of risking 40 years in jail though. I'm sure that mentality will change once I have kids or something, but right now I'd rather take my chances of an arse whipping.
ETA: Before somebody jumps my shite, I am by no means saying this fella did the wrong thing. It should be a clear cut self defense case and he should have been cut loose immediately after the investigation.

right. I don't understand what the counter argument is.

I wouldn't shoot a guy who's trying to fight me anyway.

I see where you are coming from. It is seriously fricked up that we have to even consider thinking like this.
I say it is better to be judged by 12 then carried by 6

I agree.

But there is no way to tell that the guy wouldn't have continued beating him more severely or even killed him. Obviously the guy felt his life was on the line and took the right steps to defend it.
Unfortunately we are unable to predict the future when it comes to defensive encounters. That's why hindsight is 20/20 and we're allowed to be armchair quarterbacks and say what would have been the 100% right thing to do. But I think this guy did the right thing to defend himself and his wife. It just seems like the family of the ex husband wants some money for him being an idiot and assaulting Jason.

Wake up a free single man and go to bed in jail, married with three step kids and a pending murder charge. Ain't no chick worth that much reality.

The dude entered his home........assaulted his wife.......then assaulted him to some extent. He got what was coming to him..............#freejason
