re: FA Signing: JR SMITH??

This thread makes it sound like JR Smith is some retard that can barely dribble a basketball
He's about to win 6th man of the year, put up an 18/5/3 season and is a better scorer than anyone on our entire roster. He can totally take over games, and has won games for the Knicks single-handidly several times this season.
Not saying it's the best signing in the world, and I might not want to do it, but it's not laughable by any means
Sometimes I question how much a lot of you really know and understand about the NBA

Everyone questions the same thing about you.
JR Smith would not work here. It is laughable to think it would, or to make him the focal point of the team going forward as the OP suggests.
JR Smith needs to be the 6th man on a team with other stars.
No one denies his ability. Guy is an elite scoring talent. He's just a mental midget and basic all around POS.

Serious question, I really don't follow the guy closely. What makes him such a garbage human being?

JR Smith would not work here
Because the SG we have right now is just such a fan favorite?

Many many many reasons. He's had some incidents. Just look it up.
The guy is a Grade "A" idiot. If we were on the verge of being an elite team with a very strong locker room, I would be all for it, despite that.
But we aren't and we don't have the lockerroom yet. He's not what this team needs AT ALL.

Oh it's very laughable when you're suggesting JR Smith is a top 15-20 guy or a franchise player like the OP is.
JR is doing well with the Knicks because the coach gave him the green light to come off the bench and shoot ala Jamal Crawford with the Clippers.
You put either of those guys in the starting lineup or try to run an offense through them and you're gonna have problems. Just ask George Karl.

I'm usually with you, but this dude is just to big of a showboat to make him your franchise, especially with the young, impressionable dudes we have on the roster now.

JR Smith is a good player. That's not laughable.
...What's laughable is the top 15 player, face of the franchise talk.
I don't think anyone really said otherwise, so I'm not sure where you're getting that from...Fun Bunch said he was a complete idiot. He is.

I'm not saying I want this dude on our team
I'm just saying, having the 6th man of the year, almost 20 PPG scorer on your roster isn't some terrible thing to have.
Not to mention he gets this "chunker" label, but he shoots a better FG% than either of our top 2 scorers
And I'm aware of his "bad locker room guy/team cancer" label, but I'm still waiting for some concrete examples of how he's such a terrible person

Exactly...Smith can score, but he's shooting 42% on 16 shots a game. He's no elite player.

He's a chucker...16 shots a game, 42%
...if he isn't, no one is.

He's just kind of a moron...not very mature, silly, not focused on D...not someone you want to lead your team. Great 6th man, scoring punch though.
I'm not against the guy on this team, but he's a role player, not a franchise player.

That's JR Smith's sister choking out a bitch in China at one of JR's games. The Smith's don't mess around.

I wouldn’t have believed it except that I expect this type of thing from a member of JR Smith’s family.
Mini Precious went on a rampage after disagreeing with a foul call against her brother.

He's playing for a contract. I think most of the reactions here are a little quick and absolute because his knuckleheadeness has been experienced in person, but Gtothemoney said it best, it's doubtful he'll be so motivated and focused if you give him a 4 year big money deal.

He went to Jail for killing his friend in a car accident. He got caught tweeting sexual stuff to an underage girl. George Karl and Byron Scott hated him. When he was hear, he would routinely blow off practice, jack shots up from half court during shootarounds, etc. His family is also involved in his life heavily and they are a trainwreck as well. he's had many incidents I just don't have time to post.
The guy is a good 6th man on a good team. He needs to stay the frick away from our young'uns.

I really like JR smith, hes a good player, top 20 HELL NO, top 40 Id say so. Without JR Knicks wouldnt be as good as they are now. He is definately better than Gordon IMO. All that being said, no way in hell i want him as a pelican. He is not a good fit here, sure with him playing we would instantly be better. but we still wouldnt be a playoff contender, not even close. We can do better than get JR, but if this were to happen, i wouldnt be to mad

Not saying to go and give him a max contract, geez... But we could probably offer him a contract that is considerate of his talents and fair to us. Face of the franchise, no, but he can be viewed as a significant piece to the puzzle.
He is a knucklehead but hell so is Eric Gordon just in a low key way. At least JR won't take nights off. He might make ill advised plays but he will play hard. A team sometimes needs that knucklehead or that bully to have a certain edge.
And oh yeah, JR is a Top 30 player, period. Even if a few teams have two superstars on one team (Mia, OKC, BOS,LA (both))
I'm all for at least inquiring into JR's services at a fair price, I think u could get him for 7-8 million a year and have a Top10 scorer on the team. Sign/trade for a All star caliber SF or PG and draft whatever position u don't get and that strarting five is legit.
To say its laughable is near sighted and refusing to recognize that the dude has matured somewhat recently. Hasn't had a single issue in New York and by now the old JR would of had at least two. Sometimes u have to take calculated risks.... This would be one of them...
