Offense wasnt bad in 11.

At the end of the 2011 season, LSU ranked 86/120 Division I-A teams in total offense. That's bad. Most of our scoring that year resulted from turnovers and special teams play.

This. I'm not interested in what you have to say in March and April. Show me something different on Saturdays in the fall.

The offense has changed from one oc to the next. Also from the players on the team. We threw it way more last year than we did from 09-11. 08 we threw it cus we trailed a lot.

hogwash!!! it's been the same offense since '05!! stats and facts be damned!!

So what you are saying is that special teams and defense helped out our scoring but hurt the amound of yardage gained...

I think we can expect a better offense...But I don't think it will be exceptional to begin with. I am hoping for a good year but would be pleasantly surprised for a great one...

This argument doesn't really withstand scrutiny. Alabama had a higher ranked defense than LSU in 2011 and yet finished 31 in total offense, more than fifty spots better than LSU. Similarly, UGA had the fifth ranked defense in 2011, yet finished 39 in total offense. In 2003, LSU had the number one ranked defense, yet finished 31 in total offense. In 2007, LSU had the third ranked defense and the 26th ranked offense. In 2012, Alabama had the best defense in the land, but finished 31 in total offense. (As I write this, I must marvel at the bizarre consistency of LSU 03, Bama 11, Bama 12 - all first in total defense, 31st in total offense). There are a plethora of other historical examples demonstrating that a team with a formidable defense can nonetheless finish in the top third or quarter of the nation in total offense. The 2011 offense simply wasn't very good.

The offense was extremely efficient until the Bama game.

His philosophy just like most coaches is to play to your strengths. He's never been opposed to opening it up with the pass (just look at Ok St. and first few years here) he just didn't feel comfortable doing it or we weren't able to recently.

This +1. As much as I/we'd hate to admit it, he knows the team better than us. He grates me sometimes, but gotta give him that.

The problem most of the time has not been the play type selection, it has been the inefficiency in the passing game.

You might be interested to know that in 2011 J. Lee had the highest QB efficiency of any QB in the SEC. (if i remember correctly...)

Again those total defense stats are based on total yards. In 2011 LSU averaged almost 1 more takeaway per game than Alabama. If your going to credit LSU's defense and special teams for field position and contributing to offensive scores, you have to assume that resulted in less yards gained per game.

Can't wait to see what they look like.......I remember being excited when they brought in Kragthorpe and going to a scrimmage and not seeing one lick of difference.

I really need go no further than 2003 LSU to rebut this. In 2003, LSU was ranked 1st in total defense, allowing app. 252 yards per game. That same defense had 33 takeaways. 2003 LSU was ranked 6th in punt returns (14.5). In 2011, LSU was ranked second in total defense, allowing app. 261 yards per game. That edition of the defense had 30 takeways. 2011 LSU ranked 12th in punt returns (13.44). Hence, the 2003 LSU defense allowed FEWER yards, forced MORE turnovers, and had BETTER punt returns (i.e. field position), yet 2003 LSU finished 31 in total offense and 2011 LSU finished 86! You can't blame the woes of the 2011 offense on superlative defense and special teams. The 2011 offense just wasn't good.

"Most"??? Come on. That's just crazy.

Our D and ST team play was very good, but it hardly was responsible for "most" of our scoring.

In our SEC games alone, we probably had bout 25 drives for points of over 65 yds.

Hey, we had some great ints/returns and such, but no way those were responsible for "most" of our scoring.

His exact words were that we will play differently on offense and our opponents will have to be responsible for that (there's your Les'ism) and that we will still do the things we do. We will throw it, have ball security, and rush it when we NEED to.

Ill believe it when I see it!
