re: Best Case EG trade scenario IMO

this is more serious than the tank for Wiggins crowd is but here goes:
they aren't going to tank next season. they may not quite make the playoffs, but they will not tank.
this young, island of misfit toys roster- with $17million in dead cap space- has been mediocre when everyone is fully healthy.
an improved Davis, FA signings, lotto pick, plus either healthy EG or his trade haul will be around .500 next year.
42 can correct me here, but I also believe that Benson is losing millions on the team this year. He wants a competitive team to put people in the stands and get eyeballs on the tube. I doubt tanking is high on his list of options.

An 8 seed next year isn't a ~2010 Rockets type team filled with a bunch of aging players that won't get better. We're the 2nd youngest team in the NBA, and could be the youngest next year if Mason leaves and we sign some young FA's. An 8 seed next season would be with the likes of AD, Rivers, a top 6 pick this year, ~25ish EG, Lopez and Ryno, and potentially a few young FA's we add this offseason. We'll have, what, ~$15m to spend in FA next offseason? What does it say about our key players (especially if EG stays healthy) and front office if we add some more key pieces with that money and still suck badly enough to get a top 5-7 pick in the 2014 draft? Yes, that gives us a small chance to land Wiggins or Parker, but I'd much prefer, you know, the guys that are supposed to be our future actually playing well on the court and winning games. A bottom ~6 record next year is also likely going to result in the replacement of the entire front office, which I don't think is going to bode well for such a young squad. People need to get over the OKC model (who were *gasp* an 8 seed a few years ago) and obsessing over having three consecutive years of very high draft picks (the most recent of which is no longer on the team, and they've somehow survived) and cross their fingers that AD, EG, and Rivers step their games up and Dell makes good use of our cap space.

Deandre Jordan and Bledsoe for Gordon

Okc was one team. Look at kings, wizards, etc. Teams that always very high draft but never get better. A culture of losing can't be good for young players. It will breed laziness and a can't wait to get out of here attitude.

come on bro we are nothing like an aging team stuck in the 8th spot
but you have to admit there is a line if you're bad be really bad so you have a chance to gather some young players ESPECIALLY if your a small market team like the Hornets who doesnt attract big named free agents...most of us admit that EG (with an adjusted attitude), AD, Ryno, and maybe Rivers is a great young core...then we just need a few more pieces to the puzzle and the best place is the draft for a small market team
I do agree that its highly unlikely we (and any other team) build a team solely off the draft but it definitely helps
the 8th seed is good for an up and coming team because they are rising I didnt say that if we get the 8th seed next year we will be terrible because we are a growing team I simply said we do not want to get stuck their

don't you people who are constantly wanting to tank every single year get tired of doing so? We are already praying for a tnak next year because we are not in win mode...ever.I don't get never wanting to win
No shite.
"Yeah let's sit on our hand this offseason and wait until next offseason to make a move"..
Since this is a sport like baseball where you are allowed the time to build a franchise over 5 or so years.. uh no. It's the NBA; players stay with a team a few years and then leave. Coaches get fired. The window of opportunity to win is small.
So lets not do anything this year, let Monty and co get fired, then hire another coach and go through more turnover and do this same old shitty team song and dance again. Meanwhile, 6,500 sit quietly in the Arena night in and night out.
Or we have the best up and coming Big in the league, either A) an All Star SG or B) a nice trade chip to bring in another talented player(s), the best 3P shooter in the league, a 2013 lottery pick, a handful of CHEAP bench players who have broken out this season, and money to spend in the offseason... but yeah, let's sign Corey Brewer and Shelden Williams and wait until LBJ comes to NOLA.
Throw some talent together and see what happens. There is no reason this team shouldn't be in the playoffs next season. There are 2 or 3 elite teams in the NBA. We are never going to be mentioned in the same breath as OKC, MIA, SA.. We can be a DEN, MEM, LAC, NY type of team. You dont know what you got into you go for it

Ya, the Hornets are gonna try to spend that money in a big way THIS offseason.

Best backcourt in the league.

The 3 things that need to happen is
1) Draft Marcus Smart
2) Trade Gordon to GS ( Klay Thompson & Harrison Barnes) or Chicago ( Luol Deng)
3) Sign a Big ( Paul Millsap, Al Jefferson or Nikola Pekovic

I'd take either of those, but they're not happening.

that would be a clusterfrick...3 starting caliber PFs

this is very cliche. that applies to teams with bad owners and managements. dell demps is pretty savy and loomis is giving great info on the process.

And how savvy will he look if we have many of these players next year + an even better AD/Rivers + a fairly high lotto pick + ~$15m in acquisitions this offseason but still don't win 30 games in 2013/14?
Posted on 4/11/13 at 11:44 pm to BayouFann
Well if Dell and Loomis are doing such a great job then Monty must be a really shitty coach

GS trade almost happened @ the deadline & Deng is a perfect fit here.
I'd take either of those, but they're not happening.

AD should be moving to Center & Ryno could stay the 6th man on this team
Posted on 4/12/13 at 12:55 am to ralsu
AD isnt strong/heavy enough to be a starting center. if he looks like he can be a great pf why move him to c. i do like ryan a the 6th man though.

I agree. Depending upon the signings and improvements, perhaps a little above .500.

I don't know how much Benson is losing, but, regardless, I fricking guarantee you that the marching orders are to win next season. And here's the thing, it's almost like some of the posters seem to think that you have be high lottery team until . . . bingo . . . you're a contender with three all stars and a nine man deep rotation. At some point, this team is going to have to move forward. It's not the end of the world to have an intermediate step, or take a baby step to put it another way, and have a season of contending for a 6-8 seed. Hopefully, by then you are in a position to add the final pieces that, along with continued improvement of your young players, makes you a contender.

Exactly, perfectly said. You have to be build a winning team, then a playoff team, then maybe, just maybe a title team. Also, making the playoffs isn't that big of a deal. Over half the league makes it. With 3 players in the top 50ish (Gordon, Davis, Anderson, maybe Vasquez?) playing full time, this team should already be there. Monty and Dell need to figure out some fit issues.. Vasquez/Gordon and Davis/Anderson, plus I expect two major additions this summer (lottery, FA, trade?) then we are on the way. If we don't make the playoffs, something major went wrong and heads should roll. I'm ready for this wasted season to be over and get the shite going..

This.
Look at Memphis- last two lotto picks were Henry and Thabeet- yuck. Yet here they are, a legit western conference contender. Were they stuck in no mans's land 2 years ago as an 8 seed?
They had their guys (Gay, Conley, Gasol) and they let them develop while building around them (ZBo/Allen).
This is going to take time. Pels have a solid young nucleus in Davis/Ryno (Gordon or his trade value) but they need time grow (Davis), grow up (Gordon), and just season together. Of course they need more better players. And the team has a top 6 pick, cap space for FA and trades, and a couple of trade chips to play if they want.
But short of signing Lebron, there isnt a magic bullet to be found. And tanking in the hope that a 19 year old a year from now can be that guy is incredibly dumb.
