In retrospect, the Night's Watch hasn't been all that safe for Benjen and Jon either.
One could argue the Lannisters and Baratheons were a much greater threat to Jon than anything beyond the Wall.

As a series newbie (just finished getting caught up on all episodes last week), and a complete NON reader, I have these thoughts:
- I feel that the throne is Dany's to have and that all of the action in the realm is just musical chairs until Dany and her dragons come to town. The wars via Robb and Stannis feel like fluff to me, and I just don't know where Bran's arc will go.
- I just don't see how the Lannister's stay in power with Joffrey as king. His ruling with fear will be the Lannister's undoing. Either by war, or assassination, or by some scheme from the Tyrell's.
- I watched the "honeypot" video. God damn. I never felt right about that girl, but the video blew my mind. (Although it felt like watching those conspiracy videos after Sandy Hook)
- Another thought I have is the importance of the army beyond the wall. I think Mance Rayder will take that army south to King's Landing and take over. Robb and Stannis will lead their wars in the meantime, but Mance will come in and prevail and name Jon Snow Hand of the King. But then here comes Dany with her now grown arse dragons and rains fire from above. So figuratively, the ice gets overthrown by fire.
-Ultimately, I don't think there's a happy ending. All the Lords will be defeated or are dead, and the realm is left in ruins and divided, decimated by years of war. The realm was in a period of rennaisance, and the game of thrones put it into a dark age. In my mind, I envision a final scene with Dany sitting on the Iron Throne with her dragons around her, then the camera pans out and away from the city only to reveal dead armies and Kings Landing looking like Harrenhal.
This is really good analysis from just watching the show.

why are you discussing this here?

Because my analysis is just based off the Show so far.
It's been harmless.

John Snow...the rightful King

Yeah that's a possibility--it just seems totally out of Ned's honor code to make bastards.

Book reader, but I'd predict Danys because it would be a bitter irony. Thousands upon thousands die and in the end, nothing changes from the beginning -- a Targaryen is on the throne. All could be avoided if there is never a rebellion. Instead, everyone dies for nothing.

Yeah plus the show has made me doubt pretty hard whether jon is really a half-stark
I see what you are thinking, but I'm guessing he is half-stark, just not paternal side.

Snow and Dany rule jointly (song of ice and fire)
i never caught that before, good stuff.
also i'm not a book reader but it seems an awful lot of future importance is put on mance rayder (sp?) by show watchers here. like ascension to the throne importance.
not sure where that's coming from since we don't know much about him. maybe it's just me. but right now he seems as important and similar to Thoros. Just the leader of some off shoot army no?
if the show has revealed more than maybe i missed it. but many people are saying mance and it doesn't sound like its tongue and cheek like hodor.

That's because from what we've heard in regards to the strength of his army, it's MASSIVE. Plus...GIANTS! I agree he's not been developed much, but it's not crazy to assume he's going to be a major player sooner rather than later.

You must not know what started the rebellion but I agree, an overthrow was likely inevitable

Mance was mentioned in the very first episode of season 1 so I would think he's very significant.

Well if Giants are their own species, which I assume they are, then it would make sense to have women also.

I feel like my opinion of Dany has dramatically decreased since season 1. I enjoyed her story back then and felt sympathy for her, but she has become whiny and bossy since then. She just assumes that everyone is going to pledge loyalty/support to her or otherwise she'll have the dragons fry them up. Doesn't work like that.
Plus, I would say that most of Westeros has not forgotten the Mad King's reign and still despise the Targaryens, or at least feel that they lost the Iron Throne fair and square during Robert's Rebellion.
I don't hate her character, but I really don't understand the undying love that some of the fans have for her.
As for Stannis, I don't think he'll sit on the throne at the end.
I would much rather see Waldur aka Hodor sit on the throne than Dany or Stannis.
