There are plenty small towns all over that are nice places to live. My wife would move to Pagosa Springs Co in a heartbeat. Bozeman Montana is also a nice bigger town.
Wyoming I always liked Sheridan or Buffalo. They are small towns but big enough to have the comforts of life.

I've camped near Sheridan, not a bad place.
Sandpoint Idaho is underrated. Probably not as cold as Northern Wyoming, but has a ski area and gorgeous terrain. Northern part of Idaho.

My family used to have a house in Durango, not far from Pagosa... I WILL move back there one day, Durango is an awesome place..
