A decent burger in Lafayette

First, I'd like to apologize in advance for starting one of those best burger threads, however, I have done a search and have taken advice from some here and have tried various places, and I'm still searching for a burger that I can really enjoy.
Thumbs down on the now defunct Southside, which was basically dried meatloaf on a bun. I've tried Pete's and it was beyond well done. Judice Inn is a cute old fashioned style burger, but I'm into a thicker patty. I've had good burgers at Ground Pati in the past, but they had some service issues and I haven't been back. I did have a good burger at Victory (I think it was called) on Johnston near downtown, but they're now closed.
The motive for my starting this thread is because I've just tried Fat Pat's for the first time, another highly recommended burger, but was very disappointed. It too was way overcooked and the fries were either overcooked or fried in old oil because they had a bitter taste to them. Needless to say I wasn't impressed. I can see why people would like this burger if it was executed better. Perhaps it was just an off day since it's had so many recommendations here. My server Jes was fantastic.
I get to Laffy for a few lunches so I'm looking for a thicker burger and a cook that doesn't believe that beef should be blasted to an internal temp of over 200 degrees. Anything places that I'm missing and should try?

French Press?
FTR: I'm a Judice Inn guy and not a big fan of Twins/Fat Pats.

Max's Pool Hall in the shopping center at the corner of Pinhook and Kaliste Saloom. My favorite burger. Very thick burger cooked on a flat top. Nicely seasoned but not overly so.
I don't know what you're looking for in terms of doneness. I think the general public likes burgers just past the point of any pink in them. Max's is like that, but they will do it less if you ask. Max's has no fries, only chips.
Chub's is a food truck that does little slider burgers. They make
their burgers medium rare and make their own buns as well. What's nice is because of the size you can choose two or three of the different styles they offer. You can find them online to see where they will be on a given day.
Acme Burger, though having a rough start, has upped their game a lot I believe. They have about 5 different breads and the same amount of meat options (beef, sausage, half and half, lamb and chicken). The breads are interesting. They have both fries, which aren't very good in my opinion, and homemade chips which I like a lot. Acme Burger is in the oil center.
Take my opinion with this information, though: I never had a love for Ground Pat'i as you seemed to have at one point. So you may not enjoy my recs.

Morvant's is an awesome burger, yes. I don't know if the OP would like it though because he doesn't like "meatloaf" burgers as he's described it and I know exactly what he's talking about. Morvant's, in my opinion, is kinda like that, though done much better than Twin's.
I do love Morvan'ts though. Everybody has their preferences.

Maxs' pool hall gets a two thumbs up rating, and has for a long time.

The OP should be warned that Max's is a bar that permits smoking.
I've never been in there for that reason, because I don't want to smell like smoke the rest of the day. I do hear good things about the burgers, though.

Wait...I thought you couldn't smoke in food serving LA establishments.

That's a pretty bad run of luck of getting overdone patties, assuming you specified medium.
I always specify medium/medium rare to make sure they come off the heat earlier rather than later.

You can smoke in a restaurant here if less than 50% of the gross sales comes from food.
Max's at night is bad concerning smoke. It's a bar. But during the day there are only a few if any smokers but I've never come out of there smelling like an ashtray. I went there today and there were none.

I'll vouch for Max's as well. Plus he cooks most of them himself. And as said, lunch isn't bad. The burger is worth it. Call it in and then eat in the car.

The oil center is a section of town. It was once where all the oil companies had their offices, though not so much anymore. The corner of Pinhook and south college is one corner of it.
