For the record, I have tried pretty much all that has been mentioned. The best cooked andt tasting burger I found was Cochon. The cheese made it a little salty, but it was cooked perfectly and the fresh tomato was awesome. I am still looking for a replacement.

Ooooh. Forgot about Gary's in my listing of great burgers in town. Big juicy burgers cooked on a flat top. They are definitely not overcooked, OP. Sometimes, though, around noon if they're real buysy, they cook a whole bunch of patties and just heat them up when you ask for them. Still good but not nearly as good as the made-to-order ones. If you go, go around 1130 or 1:00 to get the best ones.
Overall, I'd say try Max's if you haven't been there yet. Then Gary's next.

The best burger I’ve had in the Lafayette area, was at The Station Bar & Grill. It’s loacated in Broussard.

delicious burger
If you're in the Youngsville area, Morvant's has a good burger and fries.

Charlie G's and Social both have pretty good burgers

I have to agree with your assessment of Fat Pats. While they are my favorite buger joint, they have a tendency to overcook the patties and fries. I made sure I started asking for medium and it has improved the burger drastically. My suggestions would be Morvants in Broussard or Youngsville. Both are great. The station in Broussard makes good burgers too. Similar bread to Fat Pats. I use to go get dollar burgers at the Bulldog, but I dont' know if or what day they do that anymore. They were great.

I mentioned it in another thread recently but my go to burger here near work is at LTs Seafood. Fries are nothing special but that's not a big deal to me.
I have eaten the seafood there. Never got a burger. Not too far from my house.

WhoDaqs is good. Also, there is a fairly new place on Congress that I hear is good.

Cajun Burgers next to Congress Cleaners? It's a decent burger. Had it twice when I dropped my clothes off, but it's never been good enough to bring me back other than a convenience factor.

I've been there. Mediocre at best. Too much stuff in the burger. You can't taste the meat. Meh. And their hot dogs are bad. Screwing up a hot dog is difficult but somehow they managed to do it.
Who Daq's is another place I don't like that much. Too much seasoning. Tastes like Tony's seasoning on a bun.

The OP should be warned that Max's is a bar that permits smoking.

Morvant's getting a lot of likes on here. I thought it was pretty bad. I tried it a couple of times because people said it was good. Last time I had it, I threw most of it away.

I had the burger at Social and was really disappointed. It was really bland and "the Chef advises Medium Well."
I am a big fan on the burger French Press.

You loved their fries? They don't serve fries and never have.

That Pinto is a fire hazard all it's own.
Consider dining in at Max's as a form of preparation.
