tournament is exciting and fun to watch, but it's a crappy way to determine a champion.

The BCS, for all its faults, is the only system that rewards regular season accomplishment. Again, it sucked for LSU when the Bama rematch happened, but in general, if you make the NCG, you deserve to be there given what you accomplished during the year. There are no Wichita States making the NCG in football and that is a good thing.

Why don't they deserve to be there? It's not like they won one game and they are in the final 4. They beat some quality teams to get there. They also had a pretty good regular season. Basketball isn't football. The talent gap in basketball is much less than it is in football, so these smaller teams are often just as good, if not better, than the big teams.

How many D1 basketball schools are there? 340+?

I think a 64 (frick 68) team single-elimination tourney works for NCAAB.

WOW!

So you would rather a system which subjectively puts the two "best" teams based SOLELY on the opinion of (cough....cough) non-biased coaches and computer data in the championship game over the process that essentially every other sport uses (i.e. reg season - playoffs-championship)?

Ask Auburn-04', Colorado - 01', Okalahoma St. - '11, Oregon - 01', Utah-05', etc, etc, etc, about how great a job the BCS does in "rewarding regular season accomplishments"

For all of those who say the reg season in basketball doesn't matter, you may have a point when discussing the one-bid leagues, but certainly not when discussing the power conf. For the most part, teams in the power conferences have to perform very well in the reg season in order to get selected to play in the NCAAT (conf. tournament champs notwithstanding). However in CFB, a team could win it's conference, win the conference champ game (on several occasions go undefeated) yet still not have any means of competing for a championship because voters subjectively think another team is better. What a joke!!
