JaCoby Jones Appreciation Thread

I have seen and heard some things about JJ tonight and over the past few weeks, I have even said my piece, but we need to remember something about this guy, he has potential.
Tonight was the first time in his LSU career where Jacoby Jones didn't start. He has started in every single game since arriving on campus. Not too shabby.
Also, he is a beastly 2B and would hate to have him watch the games while someone else weakens a pretty solid middle infield.
He is 1 for his last 27 and hasn't hit a HR since Feb 19th. His last RBI was against Auburn.
HOWEVER...
He is figuring out how to layoff the close pitches. That is where the majority of his walks are coming from. It isn't because pitchers are pitching around him, it's because he is seeing the close ones, maybe a bit too much. He is roping the damn ball right to almost every player on the field every game. He has a black cloud floating over him right now.
He isn't Ty Ross. Remember this. He is in a terrible slump right now and thank god it is now and not later. He will bounce back. He needs to have a spot in the lineup and we ride him out. He never misses another game...fact.
Show the love and remember that JJ is going to be drafted in the first five rounds of the MLB draft regardless.

I went back and read it. Damn 1 for 27 is abysmal. I still like the kid. I think he will get it rolling soon. I hope so anyway.

He'll break out of it. As you said his contact has mostly been sharp contact and he's learning to be patient. May be the pendulum has swung to being a little too patient. Whatever it is its the right time of the year to be slumping. Remember Raph dropped almost 100 points at the end of last year.

I'd sit him tomorrow, too. Let him simmer, and be ready for the W/E.

He's in a 2 season slump. The kid just can't hit anything with movement. This is the batter he is.

<------ unwavering faith in Jacoby
Look forward to his forthcoming hot streak

He's slumped for two years. Put Yocum in.

Couldnt have said it better Les... All I hear is this guy has potential. What I see is a really good defensive player and one of the worst everyday starters in the last ten years when he bats...

I agree tade, I believe in him and hope he pulls out of this slump soon. I also agree his glove and fielding are way too good to take off the field. I think everyone should take a deep breath and remember that we are playing great at the moment and he isn't hurting us...

Bingo. This place is so damn PC sometimes. Fact is, Jones can't fricking hit. He just can't. Second is not a hard position, get him out of there and give someone else a try.

How much do we actually lose in the field for someone with a stronger bat? Does better hitting outweigh weaker fielding, or does stronger fielding outweigh weaker hitting? That's really what it boils down to.

He is a black hole in the order. Just someone with a .250 AVG would increase the potency of our line-up tremendously.
