I know it's in the american's abroad thread, but this development merits its own place on the board.

Stuart Holden has struggled for playing time at Bolton since returning from injury, but the Trotters are prepared to set Holden up with a move that could help him get back on the field.
The Bolton News is reporting that Bolton is preparing to send Holden on a short-term loan move to Sheffield Wednesday.
Holden hasn’t played in a month for Bolton, and a move to Sheffield Wednesday could allow him get playing time in the middle of a race to avoid relegation. Sheffield Wednesday is currently a point out of the relegation zone in the English League Championship.
Holden is in the final year of his deal with Bolton, and is reportedly in contract talks with the Trotters.

Hope to see him get some PT.

Playing anyplace is good..... But I don't know that this necessarily a positive.
How is Tim Ream doing at Bolton?

Agreed. I doubt he'll sign for Wednesday if the go down. Playing League 1 football certainly won't bode well for his hopes of making it back into the national team. And it looks like he doesn't have a future with Bolton either. It's sad to see what injuries have done to this kid's career.

it's a tough sport. If he reaches the form he did pre-injuury, he'll be back to the top flight in no time. Still, it's a big IF, everyone needs to accept that. That's why it's slightly frustrating to see him mentioned, on this board, as the central midfield savior to be paired with Bradley.

RT @OfficialBWFC: Freedman: "This is the best move for Stuart. We had a good chat and I informed him that we want him with us next season." #BWFC

Good to see that Bolton has confidence in him. Could be very telling of where he's at right. Bolton has been monitoring his progress most closely so maybe he's been training well and showing some flashes of his pre-injury form.

I don't see how this can be viewed as a negative. He needs minutes to get back to form. It's only a short term loan and Bolton has said they want to resign him

I didn't realize he was out of contract.
Trivia time: name the two other Americans who have played a significant part at Wednesday over the years.

I know John Harkes is one of them.

Frank Simek?
Or was that Sheffield United?

Frank has been at both. Was a fan favorite at SW and their best player for a period, but then destroyed his ankle and his career never recovered.
Pledged a fraternity with his little brother in college. Got to meet Frank too, so that was cool.

Simek was one of my early lessons in "the next big thing."

Bolton has also been picking up results lately with their current lineup and their 2 CMs have been playing really well for them, therefore doesnt make much sense for them to trot him out there just to see how he his. Send him out on a short loan and evaluate him there while you continue your push. Makes sense for both parties.

The negative is that he isn't able to get the minutes with Bolton.

That didn't take very long. Harkes and Simek are correct.

quote:
"This is the next step in his rehabilitation process and he'll come back to us match fit. This is the best move for Stuart and is a win-win-win situation for everyone involved.
"We had a good chat earlier in the week. I informed him that we want him with us next season and have offered him a contract extension."
quote:
"It's fantastic news that we'll be giving him a new contract.
"I'm sending him out to get games because whatever I do is in Bolton's best interest. I am doing something that helps in the long run.
"Stu has played several reserve games but we're at the stage where he needs that test. I'm looking at the bigger picture because we've got young Josh Vela and Medo, and this move suits everyone."
