I heard this version of it today:
The Little Willies - Jolene
So it got me to thinking of some other versions.
White Stripes - Jolene
Who does your favorite cover?

That's Ray's song. He wrote it.

Man, I'm a huge sucker for the Dolly Parton original (is it originally her song? I think so?) because I remember hearing it all the time as a kid. The White Stripes version was really raw and interesting, but I just wasn't feeling it.
I feel like the Ellie Goulding version really captures the spirit and feel of the original. Good for her. Not quite the same vocal chops, but I enjoyed it.
The version by Keith Urban, John Mayer, and Norah Jones at the Grammys was some good stuff (minus Mayer's vocal part). I especially enjoyed the pickin' Best link I could find
I saw Grace Potter do it live. Tremendous.
ETA: Holy crap, I loved that Rhonda Vincent version

Norah Jones is great, but it's Dolly's song.
Although growing up, I had a hard time imagining a girl named Jolene as being some great beauty. It's the kind of name one of the backwoods redneck girls I went to school with would have.

Yep, and one of my absolute favorites from the guy.
But, I'll echo a lot of others and say Jack White.

Really.
Now if this was the "Best sped-up overly dancey version of 'Jolene'" thread... I'd have posted the Olivia Newton-John version.
