Nicks and Evans are guards. Rarely, do you find an elite left tackle that is not a first round pick. And the only reason that Bushrod was a pro bowler was due to injuries, players bailing on the game, and Brees' ability to avoid sacks.

Well Minnesota's sitting with the 23 and 25 picks. Maybe trade down and address both needs if Minnesota's serious about Tavon Austin as their pick. I can't see him falling to 23 after his combine workout. Doubt they would give up both picks for a 15.

I'm 95% positive the saints will still go defense at 15th if they don't trade down.

Tony Gonzalez was 95% sure he'd retire after last season.

If Lane Johnson is there I think you have to consider it, especially if you can get an OLB in the third like Sio Moore or Cory Lemonier (or if we get lucky and Jamie Collins falls).

We don't need an elite left tackle

Doesn't matter why. Fact is he was. And now he's getting paid as such

Johnson won't be there by the time 15 comes around. Most experts have him going to the Chargers.

And good for him.

The probowl as an honor has lost all meaning when you are the 3rd alternate. Pretty much everyone makes it now.

Bushrod played the free agency game perfectly. The Bears were driven by a need and overpaid for a very average OT who requires help to block dominating DE's. Being a good franchise means no overpaying for mediocre players.

We'll be fine

This offense has put up ~ 30 ppg with avg lt play. The defense has really had one playmaker. Sharper. He was the catalyst in an opportune defense that led to a Super Bowl.

Tell me the last time a team won a Super Bowl and everyone said "boy good thing they had that stud left tackle"

Jake long?
Joe Thomas?
Willie roaf?
Jamaal brown?

Hmmmmm.....

We need defense. And only defense.

And Malcolm Jenkins, Sedrick Ellis, Patrick Robinson have played up to 1st round potential?
I think Cam Jordans fits well in the 3-4 so I won't add him to this list.

Seems like all our defensive playmakers come from the middle of the draft or FA.

You do not want DJ Fluker at left tackle.

What defensive playmakers?

Fwiw, long and Thomas are good tackles. I just don't believe drafting a tackle is ever the piece that puts a team over the top. I'm not saying there aren't great tackles taken in the first. There are. We just don't need to be a team that takes one

we should plug in that great 2nd RD pick from a few years ago, charles brown
damn skippy, bout time for him to step up! Besides, left tackle is supposed to be his natural position.

It will be best player available, as it should be. If the FO feels the tackle is there that will protect Brees's blindside, you bet your arse they will take him. Sure we have had limited talent at various positions on offense that Brees has made look better than they are but don't think for a second that they wouldn't upgrade for cheap if the choice presented itself. The offense isn't getting any younger and if they think there is a day 1 starter at LT they will and should take him instead of rolling the dice on a pass rusher or safety they aren't sure of.

"Fluker is a right tackle"

We actually need one of those too.

This. We'll all see how free agency sorts out in the next week so we can get a better idea on how some teams might go with their first round picks. If some teams need to get a better LT and don't get one in free agency, then there is less of a chance to grab a OT the Saints value at #15 overall.
