quote:I'd of named Sabbath as stoner metal creators(indirectly).
Most stoner bands are influenced by Black Sabbath, but most of their music was just a heavy version of blues.
I always said stoner metal was bluesy as frick. People didn't get it.
I never heard of pentagram Although this track you posted sounds more and more like some early Ozzy and later Black Sabbath IMO
You have given me tons to do on this shite weather Monday.

OSI
Side project from Jim Matheos, guitar great from Fates Warning.
He's got a couple albums, but I really like "Blood".

I really haven't been into this genre, but it is growing on me.
This track you posted is really good man. First listen I think it is good... what more can you tell us?

Seen Mike Portony was a past member. interesting, says they record their tracks individually long distances away and only come together to master and record. Now a days this must be common place.

I was made aware... not by this thread. I just wasn't a big Dino Jr fan and thats what I was pointing out.

Graveyard is mix between classic rock blues and stoner rock IMO. They're from Sweden. I was first made aware of this band from TulaneTigerFan on this board. Like some of the bands I posted in my other post, some of their tunes may be considered to up tempo for Stoner Rock purists.
Graveyard - No Good, Mr Holden

I find it fits stoner metal to a tee, just not a sludgy sounding. Works all the same.

Drop some tracks of a smiler genre.
Isis is my favorite band. It falls somewhat under stoner metal but really it has a ton of unique qualities to it and is hard to define. Especially later in the bands existence. It has been called anything from Sludge to post-metal to avant grade
A good starter song would be Isis- Celstial
isis- Carry
Less sludgy- more melodic metal Isis= Dulcinea

Strapping Young Lad - Devin Townsend making metal as a stoner.
eta - I know it's a genre and none of his music fits into it.

Pentagram was around in the 70s but only put out one official album. Their singer had some serious drug problems. They are back now and sound great.

Big second on Graveyard. Agree that they're almost as much classic as stoner.
Also, being a big fan of Isis, I'm sure that you're aware of Palms?
It's Chino from Deftones and three of the guys from Isis. They have an album coming this summer.

Never cared for Cluth
I do not know how I forgot to mention Neurosis
Kylesa I have some albums and seen play. Good band, took me by suprise @ HOB back in 2009
Jesu I am familiar with from Pandora. I just remember liking it. Reminded me of Pelican or Cult of Luna.
