I have +800 credit, saw a place with a great view, offered asking price and offered to pay a full year in advance..I was rejected.

Person accepted was a single mother paying less than what I offered...

Is this right?

So your mad at the landlord for feeling sympathy for a single mom over the value of a dollar?

Personally, I don't think its right, especially when you met all of his requirements.

But it is his choice. I'd be willing to bet there is some kind of subsidy for leasing to her over you Dude would be a fricking moron to take half of the money, unless she was putting out and then it would still have to be incredible poon.

I call BS. The landlord would be in violation of all kinds of privacy laws if he disclosed information to you about the new tenant.

Any chance something else came up in your background check? Some landlords are pretty thorough these days.

Other red flags can revolve around dialect, attire, bumper stickers, etc. Think of it like a job interview without coming across as contrived.

No, it's his choice. If you want a place with a view, move on and keep looking.

There's obviously more to that arrangement that meets the eye. With your credentials you shouldn't have a problem finding an equally nice location. There is no right and wrong when it is a matter of choice for an individual and their private property. If you really want more insight, ask the landlord nicely why you were rejected. Approach the landlord from the perspective of a learning experience.

Be thankful you're not a single mom. Maybe the landlord did feel sympathy toward her.

Find a new place and move on. You clearly have the means and ability.

Or, marry the single mom; kid(s) gets a father figure, you get a wife, and the place too.

I think you should accost the landlord in public and loudly demand to get to the bottom of this.

Challenge him to a duel at sunrise. Preferably with swords, since that's a better measure of skill than guns.

If he backs out, his family name is forever sullied.

Flashing a year's worth of rent money in cash would be a red flag to any landlord. It screams drug dealer.
