Here in the wild wild west, AZ that is, it is perfectly legal to brandish a weapon with the intent of de-escalating a situation. If the guy tries to pick a fight and there is no way to avoid it you can shut the fight down by pulling your gun.
There for my advice is to move to AZ...

I'd prefer not contracting an STD by walking within a mile of those massage parlors

Once you make a decision to carry, your outlook on these things has to change. There are no times where it will be ok for you to participate in the jawing and shite talking back and forth. You have to be able to ignore and walk away.
If the person will not let you leave and you feel in danger, that's a different story.
I don't have much to add after reading this statement. Turn your back and walk...I am too old and have too much to lose in a fistfight.
Let's say I "win" and knock his teeth out, break a: nose, jaw, arm...whatever. I am getting sued. There is no such thing as a "Good Ole Bar Fight" anymore. The 1980s-1990s of barfights are over. Somebody or everybody is going to jail and getting served to boot.

One of the "gun shows" on satellite tv has a byline at the end of the show that goes something like, "The only gun fight you win is the one you walk away from." Someone who cc just can't throw down and get in a fight w/ someone then at some point end up pulling their gun; if one does, it will have a bad ending for the one who's carrying....

Exactly.
These things have to be decided before you strap that gun on. You don't have the luxury of fighting anymore once it's on. You gave that up for the option of lethal force. If you can't do that, then don't carry. Just that simple.

1. I'm more than a little surprised at the people, one or two of whom are supposed to know better, who have have posted advice that differs from this.
2. Louisiana's justifiable homicide statutes don't mention "If I feel threatened....."
3. I would suggest that the OP take a CCW class from a knowledgeable instructor (not saying that I'm one), instead of polling the OB.

Honestly, I would fight before I backed up if I wasn't carrying. It's just more fun that way. If I was carrying, I would try to diffuse and walk away.

Lol. Don't be a douche. It was a fricking question to pass time. Time that was well passed before you came in here and took a shite.

Excellent point and I have nothing to add.

I know these are different circumstances but look at how well this situation has worked out for George Zimmerman.
Entirely his fault. Do I think he murdered the kid? No. Should he have been running around with a pistol trying to play cop? No. Does he deserve to go to prison? No, but he should lose his ccl. Neighboorhood watch does not equal Law Enforcement and everytime one of these jackasses does something wrong it causes the rest of us time and money to protect our civil liberties.

I am old and not in near the shape I need to be in to fight. The 25 year old me would just kick the shite out of the 43 year old me.
So if I ever was in a position to want to fight it would have to be to protect me or my family from immediate harm.
You just can't call me a pussy enough times to piss me off anymore

My dad has been doing Krav Maga off and on for 5 years now. He might be 58, but I wouldn't want a 6'1 220lb guy with those skills hitting me.
They learn about hand-to-hand, defending against multiple attackers, and defense against knives, and guns. Pretty useful stuff and it keeps him in shape

Dawg, if I remember correctly it reads something to the effect of not being able to shoot out of fear. However, it does say that you can shoot if the scenario would excite the fear of death or great bodily harm in a normal human being. All things considered.
P.S. i am in no way "calling you out" I know damn good and well you know the answer and jm only asking.

Ain't that the damn truth.
Man I miss the good ol' days when you could just square off with some shite-talking arsehole outside and walk away after whipping some arse without having to worry about anything.
As you stated, these days you go jail, to court, or to both.

+1
He was asked by authorities to NOT pursue Martin. He disregarded it and followed anyway. Bad move.

You're plenty close -- the law say when in "reasonable fear of death or great bodily harm."
