First let me say that Paul Maineri knows way more baseball than me. He's the manager of the club and his decisions on who pitches are usually pretty good.

But just for fun, let's play manager here.

Would you start Bonvillain tonight in a midweek game?

or do you view him as a valuable lefty that should be coming out of the bullpen?

I'd rather see him in a long relief role, but that's just me.

Thoughts?

Right decision...he can still relieve this weekend.

What kind of puzzled me is PM saying Rumbelow may start tomorrow. Do we really need to run Rumbelow out there after only a week back from injury?

bonvillain is mainly starting because PM still is giving him the opportunity to win the sunday job. Secondly we have two midweek games so he sorta has to start.

Come sec play he'll be in the pen and likely wont be starting during the midweek.

He will still come out of the bullpen Saturday and/or Sunday if he starts tonight. It is more important to get him innings right now. Washington is a 3-7 ballclub, we dont need to be worrying about having bonvillian available in the pen.

Knock on wood, but we are one injury away from being in search of a weekend starter. With that said, CPM has to begin developing someone to fill that void if the situation presents itself. I'm really high on Bonvillain, he just needs to be able to jump that 5th inning hurdle.

I might be completely wrong, but maybe starting him midweek is to try and build him up to throwing 5+ innings.
