I'm a Lakers fan and have liked Kobe since I was a little kid but he's not the greatest of all time. That would be Michael Jordan.

This could definitely just be a guy making up a story about Kobe, but I have no doubt that there are times he has practiced 5 hours on his own before a team practice or something along those lines.
Every guy who played with him in 2008 was awestruck at how much work the guy put in, and I think it had a direct effect on how hard LeBron and Carmelo worked from that point forward.

A pretty good read if you have the patience for the three minutes it takes to read it.
With that said, having a strong work ethic doesn't equate to GOAT.

So if anybody worked as hard as Kobe or Jordan they would automatically become NBA superstars?

If there was a workout spectrum, Kobe would be on one end and Royce White would be on the other.

Who is considered the best ever at their sport that doesn't have a good work ethic?

I read that, it actually is a cool story bro, should put it in quotes though so people don't think you're trying to claim it as your own

All squares are rectangles.
Not all rectangles are squares.

Oh, I agree that work ethic is a factor in being a sucessful athlete, (for opposite, see Jamarcus Russell) however I don't think using work ethic as a basis for arguing a player as GOAT is valid. A lot of athletes probably work just as hard and don't experience the same success.
It's always interesting hearing stories about how hard athletes like MJ practiced/competed, but that doesn't mean he's the only athlete that ever worked that hard.
