If he costs me a sweet 16 team in my bracket, frick him.

That's what I'm saying
As long as Otto Porter doesn't cost me a Final Four team. I'll end up wanting Alex Len with the 1st pick

I want Porter and only Porter. Noel would be a great pick too. I think Porter is our position in need and fits perfectly. Get him Monty!

Oladipo still did his thing in the loss.

Nice write up on Michael Carter Williams from SBNation.

Ultimately, his ceiling will depend on his outside shot. However, guys with his physical profile and passing ability(Rondo and Ricky Rubio) have been extremely successful at the next level without a consistent jumper. There are a lot of explosive but undersized scorers who can't run point in the NBA; Carter-Williams' ability to defend SGs and run the offense at 6'6 would allow a team to start someone like Ben Gordon, Lou Williams or Brandon Knight. While you couldn't pair him with a poor jump-shooter like Rodney Stuckey, any guard with a good jumper would look good next to him.

If he was a 35-40 percent three-point shooter, he would be in the conversation for the No. 1 overall pick. Instead, like Damian Lillard, he could make a backdoor run at the Rookie of the Year award if he lands in the right spot in the lottery. He's the best player Boeheim has had in a decade; there will be a lot of NBA teams watching to see if he can keep up his hot shooting in the next few rounds.

Players that I would draft in order based on current projected #5 Pick:
1. Shbazz Muhammad- think he is better than Porter but not by much
2. Otto Porter
3. Trey Burke- IMO the best player in America he is a difference maker.
4. Nerlens Noel- dependent on his recovery but Pekucans solidify frontcourt of the future with Davis and Noel and can look to signing a SF.
5. Anthony Bennet- If he does not get drafted in the Top 8 he will be the steal of this draft, question is what position does he play?
Players I would not draft at 5 or pray Pelicans do not draft period:
1. Smart
2. Zeller
3. Len
4. Oladipo
5. Michael Carter Williams

You have to draft him fairly blind and hope he recovers.

I'd put 3 or 4 of those guys over almost your entire wishlist.
I could honestly see Len being one of the most valuable players in the whole draft over the long term. Not saying we should draft him #1 overall if we get it, but I think he'll be pretty solid as a pro.

Oladipo would be a good fit for the hornets

Scouting report on Trey Burke

More detailed in the link, but here's the summary
And Otto Porter

More detailed in the link, but here's the summary
quote:
Intangibles/Summary
Burke had one of the most decorated seasons in recent college basketball history, and it was well-deserved. There wasn’t a single part of his game which didn’t improve from his freshman season. He has the qualities of a great court leader, a very high basketball IQ, and he isn’t afraid to have the ball in his hands in big moments. Some may have issues with his size, but his skill is so advanced, you rarely notice it. He does need to tighten up on the defensive end, and he can be a better finisher once he gets into the lane, but Burke is the best point guard in this draft, and he should be ready to contribute very quickly in the NBA.
Draft Value: Early 1st – Early Lottery - #1-6
Burke would be a great fit for any team that runs a pick-and-roll heavy offense, but he is not limited to that type of offense. He is good in transition, and he can put points up quickly if necessary. The best point guard in this year’s Draft.
And Otto Porter
LINK
quote:
Intangibles/Summary
Porter is a very versatile player who can help create mismatches in different areas of the court. He understands spacing well and he has good court vision and sense. He continues to improve in almost all areas of his game, and he should be capable of guarding a couple of positions at the NBA level. Porter understands how to make an impact, even when he doesn’t have the ball on offense, setting solid screens and attacking the offensive glass relentlessly. He still has work to do to improve his quickness, but he understands the game so well that he finds ways to compensate.
Draft Value: 1st Round – High Lottery – #3-8
Porter is still developing as a player, but 2 years at Georgetown has given him a solid foundation from which to build. He should be capable of playing in multiple systems and has the skills and understanding to make an impact in a variety of ways from Day 1.

I would not hate drafting either one, honestly.

I want Burke. Something tells me he is going to be special. The dude has the tools.

dont know if you listen to the 247 podcasts, but the most recent one with Henry Abbott is really good. specifically they talk about how Thorpe has Burke as his number 1 pick overall. and how drafting a very good smaller player is better than a potentially very good big.
not sure if I buy it, but very interesting
edit- its a long podcast (90 minutes). if you're only interested in the Burke stuff, Abbott comes on around the 60 minute mark

My personal Pels board would be:
Burke
Bazz
Porter
And then if we somehow get shafted with a 6-8th pick:
McCollum
Len
Saric
Carter-Williams
I just really think Zeller is overrated. (His brother will be a better pro)
It'd also be interesting if Bennett slides due to his shoulder surgery and Dell is convinced that he can play the SF. Even though he's more of a Millsap type tweener PF w/ not as much height.

All I know on the draft is what I read here, DX, NBA Draft Blog, SBNation, et al.
DX is pretty high on Zeller. Thinks he has some real flaws, but also has legit NBA offensive skills and is suffering from perception bias. Would rather your top 3, but am intrigued by what they say about Zeller

Burke isn't iverson, he isn't chris paul, he isn't robinson. The kid is lacking the explosiveness that a small guard needs

I like how Nate Rob has his yearly quota of 5 good strung along games and is now in the convo of Iverson & CP.
Burke is the answer. No pun intended.

I just watched one of Porter's highlight videos and I saw something troubling. At this point he has no left hand at all. He got away with it at the college level, but his drives will be able to be neutralized at the next level without a respectable left hand.
ETA - any time he was driving left, he would force up an awkward shot with his right hand. That will result in a lot of blocked shots.
