Ahh, the rant... The only place in the world where someone makes a case for being pro-sucking tiger dicks.

No, I said I highly doubt the entire section was doing it in a way that it was clear throughout the entire stadium.

Witness 2 of our favorite cheers....emanating loud and often from the student section

Pretty sure, everybody could hear those as well throughout the stadium. Especially then, when the stadium was much smaller. Again, your argument that vulgar chants are all the sudden trashy because more people hear them is a weak one. So, if less people hear it, it's okay?

i think most people with common sense hates STTDB. That doesn't mean I agree with the people who want to take seating away

How are any vulgar chants, of any generation and any level of creativity, beneficial in any way?

Yall that get so disgusted with STTDB are arguing with yourself when you admit that vulgar chants have always been a part of LSU games (and are a part of EVERY college game, anywhere). You dismiss your actions when you went to LSU because "less people heard it," "we were more creative," or "it wasn't on national tv." Why the frick does it matter? They are all vulgar chants any way you slice it. It's extremely hypocritical to criticize or threaten to take seats away from current students because of these chants. Get off your freakin moral high chairs.

You didn't need to quote him, I read it the first time. I simply do not believe that entire chant was as clear and as audible as he thinks it was.

I didn't say anything was right or wrong. I said I fully understand that some people or groups are going to say what they want regardless of what others think. I would never want to take away your right to express your obsession with sucking dicks. I'm just saying that LSU as a whole looks like trash when the entire student section does it.

Sucking dicks = intimidation

If you don't believe that it's because you are old.

It's clearly not my obsession. Since you read it the first two times, you fully understand that chanting about sucking dicks has been an LSU trademark since the 70's .

Again, like I said earlier, I'm not pro-STTDB. I've said several times in this thread I agree it is stupid. But, to treat the current students as trash because of current chants is hypocritical. It's always happened. It will most likely continue to happen. And it happens everywhere.

Clearly, the old used to believe this too!

You guys are a constant contradiction. I love it. Best thread I've contributed to on the Rant. Y'all just can't quit stumbling on yourselves.

I hope we keep it. We may not be able to beat A&M next year if Manziel doesn't hear something about sucking dicks.

First lets admit that nothing like this chant has ever caught on like this. Yes there will always be vulgar things at LSU games. In my quarter century of watching games in TS, Ive never heard anything like this.

Ill admit the first time or two I heard it I rolled my eyes and chuckled. Now its clear as day to everyone and its getting old. I dont understand why anyone would defend it now. Its not about censorship or everybody does it. Its about decency. I did things in college that were stupid, that time has passed. You got to grow up eventually. I say let the kids be kids. Thats why there is a "student section". Problem is this is caught on TV....
and it dont look good.

It's worked for 30+ years of intimidation. Taken down some real greats over the years!

My opinion on the matter is as follows:
1. STTDB was an act of protest done in revenge to make a point for how stupid it was to ban "Ooh-we-ooh" for the whole "you suck cock" episode.
2. STTDB is a stupid cheer, but that was the idea. It was supposed to be a stupid, immature, futile gesture, much like the antics of the Delta's of "Animal House". I maintain that it was just stupid in general.
3. STTDB is a stupid cheer that would have died on its own (mostly due to its stupidity) if "Neck" had not been banned.
4. STTDB will remain a common cheer at LSU events for quite some time due to "Neck" being banned.
5. The best way to get college-aged persons to do something is to tell them they are BANNED from doing so.
6. The best way to stop teenagers and college-aged people from doing something is for people they don't consider cool to adopt that thing, own, it, condone it, and encourage it. Once that happens, it will no longer be rebellious or cool and the fad will die out.

The correct approach by the administration should have been to reinstate "o-e-o", "Tiger Rag", and "Neck" while having videos showing old faculty doing those chants (possibly while wearing flatbills and having their pants on the ground to kill 3 awful trends at once), and simply ask TV networks to cease mic-ing the student section. CBS games showing LSU make the network a lot of money and they would be willing to compromise on the mic-ing if it meant not losing those precious high ratings games.

In one season (maybe longer for the "a-hole" cheer), you would no longer have obscenities chanted "en-masse" by the student section being picked up on National Television.

Yeah, it was probably just as loud and clear in the 70's as it is now. I didn't hear it in the 90's and that must have been why it was such a bad decade.

So, you want college age kids to grow up? They do eventually and they move on. A tradition of behavior however doesn't move on. It's a precedent set by generations of Tiger fans on how to act as a student in Tiger Stadium. If you have a problem with that currently, then you only have older Tiger fans to blame.

If it's people not grown up you have a problem with, you need to remind yourself how old the players on the field are.

ETA: just re-read your post. You're right. Kids will be kids. But this sudden light bulb going off that the tradition of behavior at games is bad because it's on tv is what I find so funny. It's like all the sudden everybody has completely done a 180 on what they view to be morally right. And it's all because it doesn't look good on tv because so many people see it now. Like that makes what happened before tv right...

Fully agree. The "ooh-we-ooh" ban snowballed this whole thing. It's interesting how STTDB has grown because it's one stupid act followed by another. But, like you said, the best way to get college aged kids to do something is to tell them they can't.

This isn't opinion, this is pretty much how it went down.

Oh-we-oh should have never been banned, it was the USCe game, that's their mascot.
