Re: going in house. I'm still trying to find an in-house job. I don't have a PLM but I do have a JD. It seems like no matter the job, in this economy companies are looking for 5 and 10 year guys. I was talking to a ROW agent who works in Houston who told me his company doesn't even hire new guys without a law degree. That's grim.

True. But field work can be fickle. I get emails every week from people with MUCH more experience than me looking for work. Today I got a sob story email from a friend whose husband has 7 years of experience and has been out of work for 6 months.

Go to all the job fairs you can. The O&G companies will be at most of them. There are internships for in house landman jobs.

I've looked at a ton of job posting. Most seem to require at least 5 years experience. Leaving me to wonder how exactly anybody starts out.

Just wrapped up a gig with EXCO doing this from my couch. Easiest landman job I've had so far as far as dealing with people who know what's going on and not having to pressure people to "sign"... but like all jobs in the field no project last forever. I cut my teeth doing seismic permitting all over LA and TX, and about to start on a new one since the curative work wrapped up.

To the OP, the best way to get in is when a new play bust off and they'll hire any warm body that walks through the door and can carry on a conversation.

Anybody can learn to run title in 30 minutes but it takes OCD like attention to detail and repetition to be "good" at it.
