No it's what I drink because it's what I like, for the price and accessibility. It tastes better than the other big breweries to me.

how is that for pretentiousness?
What does that have to do with your post about craft beer not being "manly".

when did I post that craft beer is not manly? Its the only kind of beer I drink

Ever tried them blind?
Serious question.

I'm 35 years old I've had them all tons. I've drank enough beer to kill a couple goats. Bud light is my choice why does that bother you so much? Miller lite is about the only thing on earth that gives me heart burn. Coors light I don't like.
Posted on 2/28/13 at 10:07 am to BigJake
It doesn't bother me at all.
I've done many a blind taste test and hardly anyone can tell them apart. The sad thing is that most people also couldn't pick Abita Light or Shiner Light out of a lineup with the BMC guys.

Drink what you like man. I don't attack those that drink BMC. A good portion of my friends do, though i did convert a few into craft. Hell, my dad only drinks bud. I've tried to convert him, but he won't budge. Me and my brother drink craft, and he calls it "weird beer".
My only thing, is for those that refuse to even try craft beer. There is another world outside of the BMC marketing machine. And that world is more flavorful and complex.
BMC does a good job at replicating a beer type (lager) that is much harder to brew than ales. Any slight off taste is much more prevalent in a lager than an ale. BMC gets a lot of credit from craft drinkers for their ability to replicate that same taste in every can billions of times. What we craft guys don't like about BMC is their intrusion into the craft market. BMC holds a 94=96% market share of the beer industry. Up to 10-15 years ago, it was 99%. So now that craft is exploding now, and their share is reduced by 6%, yet they still hold 94% of the market, they try to rebrand their shitty beer. They do it by creating shell companies. Henry Weinhard is one for example. You can't find anywhere on the package that it is an Inbev product. So if you are BMC and you are proud of your brand, why rebrand your image?
The answer, they are trying to trick craft drinkers who are less knowledgeable into drinking their beer and reclaiming that lost 4-6% of the market.
Another reason we don't like BMC, is that they take formerly good breweries, buy them, reduce the quality of ingredients, and try to sell that shite, as if it is the same brewery. Shock Top, Blue Moon are examples. And now Goose Island. I've listened to the owner of Goose Island on the brewing network. His son quit after the acquisition and started his own brewery. The owner said there is much more bureaucracy now that they don't make the final decision. He said as of now, they haven't made steps to alter the recipes. That's not a very comforting statement.
Reason 3 we hate big beer. The 3-tier system. Brewery-Distributor-Market. BMC pays a lot of money to lobbies to ensure the 3 tier system stays in place. The system favors BMC. Markets put there beers on the shelf. Whoever pays more money, gets prime shelf real estate. If you are a new brewery starting up, it's hard to get good shelf space, because BMC has 75% of the shelf taken up with the same beer in different containers. You have 6 packs, 12 packs, cases, bottles, cans, 10 oz. cans, 8 oz. cans. Then you have their lesser brews taking up space, like red dog, old milwaukee, etc... All of this shite takes up 75-80% of the grocery store shelves and it is ALL THE SAME BEER. When you have a new brewery trying to grow, having decent shelf placing is key.
Then comes the distributors. The laws are setup in such a way, especially in louisiana, that if you brew your own beer, you can't directly sell it to a market. So now you have to pay a distributor. That distributor then hauls your beer to his markets based on demand for that beer. So instead of being able to brew delicious beer and sell it. You have to brew it. Enter into a contract with a distributor. Hope that you have enough buzz about your beer to get good shelf placement.
It's basically makes it much harder for a new brewery to start up. Ergo, it favors BMC the most.
Reason 4. Gimmicks. BMC relies on stupid gimmicks to increase sales. Wide mouth cans, vortex bottles, cans that turn blue when they get cold, writing your name on bottles with a key. All of this shite does nothing to increase flavor. Also, the colder a beer is, the less flavor profile it has. So they actually encourage you to drink a colder beer so you don't have to taste the shite.

I don't understand why that's sad. If people want to drink piss let em. I'm not worried that people eat McDonald's. If you like mcd's eat it, I chose not to but it's not sad because other people do.

It's extremely sad that Abita and Shiner can't make a better light beer than the BMC guys.

What a shite show this thread turned into. LoL

agree with you, just a few corrections
its a SABMiller product
Shock Top and Blue moon are ABInBev and Coors creation. Blue Moon was originally from the microbrewery in Coors, where the brewers for the most part were independent. Shock Top was a reaction to to Blue Moon

ee tetu you left out part of the quote it was kind of important. I said they aren't groundbreaking, because they aren't. They're a local brewery that makes decent beer.

I asked this here because I love beer, but I mostly drink Bud Light. I've tried lots of local and non local craft beers. I don't get the love for Canebrake, and it seems like the Yats are just NOLA fan boys because I wasn't blown away.
quote:Actually, when people talk about how great Bud Light is I usually sit quiet. I might throw one light jab but most of our F&DB Beer community doesn't really have a problem with it, even when someone drinks BMC in a FBD Thread. We are tolerant of different people and thier choice of drink for the most part.
No one is entitled to an opinion if it doesn't agree with yours.
This thread blowing up was not a result of your opinion, tastes in beer, etc. It was the way you handled it from start.
Great marketing though. You've done a great job getting your name and location out there without spending a dime.

As a restaurant owner, wouldn't you want to convince people that your burger is better than a McDonalds burger?
This is the crux of the BMC vs. craft argument.

I assure you it was unintentional. Im not smart enough to make this happen on purpose.
You quoted me saying Nola has a few good beers. You didn't finish my quote in that I said they weren't groundbreaking.
Let me ask you all something, is there anything wrong with finding simple non complex things good? I see a bunch of stuff on the fdb that makes it seem like everyone wants caviar on their hamburgers. What's wrong with some fresh ground meat over an open flame and a soft bun with a few normal everyday condiments? Is it uncool to want something simple and good?

You don't like bacon on your burger... you are not to be trusted.

21 pages of pissing contest over beer. First world problems to the utmost extent. There's a reason there are hundreds of types of beer out there. To each his own.

It was like you came asking for what should be on your menu, but limitting it to McDonald's quality ingredients.
If you want to start a McDonald's knock of, fine, but don't come to the F&DB to ask about which Sysco gravy is best. You asked about beer and limitted it to Sysco.
