Not second guessing, but why didn't someone get those out of the way of the hurricane?

I've thought this every time he has shown them but I believe it is because they weren't expecting the levee to break an were historically supposed to be safe.

I had no idea it was going to be as bad as it was. I was in my house in Slidell when it hit. My house is in a neighborhood that's completely surrounded by a 12ft levee. I live 2.5 miles from the lake. I still had 5 ft of water in my house.

Here's pics I took of my house and 'hood while floating around in my boat.

so water got in the safe and that's the picture from when you opened it?

Yep. I had just had the safe moved to my house from my Mom's house 2 weeks before. I didn't have the combination (old style combination dial) memorized. It was written on the factory paper in a drawer in my tool chest which was next to the safe. When the waters receded first thing I went to find was the combination. I found it and the code, which was written in marker, was wiped off the paper...

Guns stayed stuck in the wet, humid, hot safe for 4 weeks before I could get someone with a torch to come cut it open.

Something like that would probably throw me into a fit of depression. I would need paxil after that.

Ready for it to get worse???

3 months before Katrina, I lost my 25 year old wife to Leukemia.

Yeah, 2005 is a year I'd like to wipe from my memory banks.

Here's something to cheer us all up:

Blackhawk S/N 100 - This gun was engraved and presented to Jack Behn by Bill Ruger, Sr. The gun was engraved by Ruger's outside engraver in a scroll pattern. The ivory stocks are factory. This Blackhawk is a 'Type 1' .357 flattop, meaning that it has the features of the 1st run of Blackhawks ever produced in the 1950's.

Fairly sure the anchor was lost with all the guns in one of these horrifically common boating accidents.

There's 2 guns I did salvage. They were both in their own cases and I put them on top my bed, which floated up and down and everything on top of it was not touched.
