I'm looking at a 2010 FX4 with 90,000 miles on it. For you F150 owners, would you recommend buying a truck with this kind of mileage on it? It's in my price range, but I'm wondering if the value is still there with that kind of mileage. TIA.

That does seem like an insane number of miles for a 2010 model. The truck would've needed an oil change every other month.. My 2006 only has 85k miles on it fwiw.

Production date is probably like 10/09 and was probably sold in 09. 30,000 miles a year is a tad high but its got to be hwy miles. I wouldn't hesitate buying it if the price is right. Just make sure to change those plugs out as soon as you get it. I charge people$350 to change them out and that includes the $120 price for the 8 spark plugs. I do em all day and some I break a few ,some I don't in those 5.4l engines.

I say no. Find a 2011 with the same milage and price or close to it and yes. The new motors are head and shoulders above the old 5.4.

I have a 03 f150 with 189k. I think that 90k in 2-3 years is a bit much, but I totally promote buying the f150.

Had a 2001 F150 4x4 Off-Road with 265K miles on it and sold it in July to my best friend for his son. Still driving good.

Liked it so much I bought the same thing in a 2011 year model.

Go for it

I think I remember seeing some special tool to either get them out unbroken, or get them out once they break off. Is there anything you can do to stop them from breaking like anti-seize or something?

I have the NAPA tool set made by Lisle. It's a $100 tool and I've never had any problems removing the bottom piece of the plug before using this tool.
No,there is no remedy to the 2 piece plug separation .It's not the threaded part that gets stuck,it's the bottom electrode shield that gets stuck because of carbon buildup. When I do my plug removals I always do them with the motor hot and use a 3/4" impact to break them loose.

The 2010 model shouldn't have the affected spark plugs if I remember right

Wasn't that on the older body style?

yes.I just realized that. 08 was the cutoff date for the two piece plug breakage issues.

Sounds like the consensus is that 90k is too many miles for a 2010. Thanks for the info fellas.

Not sure why miles vs year really matters

Lots of miles in a short time tells me it's highway miles which is a good thing

If it was a 2008 with 90k, would that make you feel better?

My hunting truck is a 1997 f150 4x4 with 250,000 miles on i... Never had to do any work on it other than filters and belts. Zero problems and i have owned it myself for 12 years.

Agreed.

100k isn't nearly the milestone it once was.

Agreed. I've gone way into 200,000 miles on our last 3 vehicles.

Looks like you cleared out the accessory isle at the local Autozone.
