I'm in the belief that Phoenix was never going to beat DDL. It's just a better narrative to say he was the "front runner" before his comments.

Zack can blow me in that case.

So the interview was in October? I can understand why he was the frontrunner then because Lincoln wasn't screened for critics until the first weekend in November. The Master came out in September.
Still doesn't change the fact that DDL became the unquestioned frontrunner as soon as Lincoln was released in theaters.

I seriously don't get why everyone is so worked up over the FLOTUS showing up on the Oscars.
People turned off the television when she came on? That's absurd.

He essentially called the Oscars "bullshite" during an interview. Whatever chance he had at the Oscar was lost when that interview was published.
What Phoenix supporters forget is that Daniel Day-Lewis was already snatching up all of he end-of-the-year critic awards at this point. He was the clear frontrunner from the very beginning of the race.
again completely inaccurate statements. the award season didn't even begin until a few months ago and after the October interview that was taken out of context. even with the interview Phoenix still won best lead actor at the London and Los Angeles critics awards.

Look….if Phoenix would have split the precursors with Day-Lewis and lost to him on Oscar night I might see the point of politics playing a role in Phoenix's loss. But Daniel Day-Lewis won the the majority of the critics circle awards, he won the Critics' Choice Award, he won the Golden Globe, he won the SAG, and he won the BAFTA. The only shot Phoenix took was at the Academy. You'd think at least one of those organizations would have awarded him Best Actor over Day-Lewis.

Two critics circles that go for the art house films all the time and who notoriously dislike Spielberg. There was literally no shock when he lost those two.

She has no business presenting the most prestigious award in the business. I would say the same thing is Laura Bush presented it.
What makes people really mad though is the fact that the Academy would have never asked Laura to do that.

Reading this thread after the fact is hilarious.
-"Les Mis is totally winning BP, y'all. Why is this happening?"
-"OMG liberals liberals liberals liberals"
-"Your movie is crap! My movie is awesome!"
-"EW, Michelle Obama!"
-"Yay! Argo!"
-"Boo! Argo"
-Concluding with, " ".

You mad.
I understand you wanted Phoenix to win but to say DDL won on pure politics is just bull crap. Phoenix only knocked the Oscars and yet got shutout at every major award. Clearly a few people thought Day-Lewis' performance to be genuinely better than Phoenix's.

DDL was incredible and its hard to argue that he isn't deserving. I have already said that.
however he won this one based on politics. he was not the best lead actor this year. his characters in There Will Be Blood and My Left Foot laugh at Lincoln. this year-
1. Phoenix
2. Hawkes
3. DDL

Another forgettable film wins BP because of the demographically fragmented voting pool and the fact that they have "good art" awards to begin with.
As long as they use the BP and other categories as a marketing tool, things like this will happen every year.
This is nonsensical. Argo won the Golden Globe, PGA, and Critic's Choice awards. It went up against Lincoln which is a film centered on a man who is widely considered the greatest president ever. Politics and such didn't play into the win. Argo was spectacular. The only movie that I thought was in the same ballpark was ZDT, and frankly, that movie dragged a bit. Quit with the hate on Ben Affleck.

Day-Lewis is getting to the Meryl Streep/Katharine Hepburn stage where they're getting Oscar wins/nominations just for showing up. Hepburn and Streep are both great actresses but Streep isn't so incredible that she deserved 17 Oscar nominations and Hepburn shouldn't have twice as many Best Lead Actress Oscars as everybody else. I mean, Best Lead Actress Oscar nominations for Music of the Heart and The Devil Wears Prada? Really? Are you kidding me?
