rationally speaking, yea it shouldn't be sad. That's life. They got to spend a long life together, in love. And that's so beautiful and wonderful

But the irrational side of us hates finality and seeing their lives from beginning to the end is sad. It's real. We prefer "happy ever after" where we can just assume characters live in happiness for ever and ever and ever

I guess. But "happily ever after" is basically what they had. They lived the rest of her (and almost all of his) life together. Maybe it's more of a happy-sad than a depressing sad.

I guess the "not being able to have kids" thing is kinda sad though.

well technically, as an audience, to us, it was happily ever....until she died.

whereas many love stories end with a "..." where we aren't shown "the end"

and yea the whole not having kids thing was sad, but it's also what springboarded their desire to fulfill their childhood dream, that is until life got in the way

I do think the montage in Toy Story 2 is even better. Thanks, coco. Now, it's all dusty in here.

But to the people who said the back half of the film isn't any good, if you don't tear up when he looks at the photo album... you are an inhuman monster worse than Hitler. Beautiful scene.
