How often do you hear a guy say, "now that's a beautiful Glock"?

Hopefully Never.

Too much consonantal alliteration to another word.

At first I was about to lose my shite because I thought you said Hi Point not Hi Power.

Thank god I went back and read it without exploding.

I just trust a Glock to not jam.

I have thousands of rounds through 3 different Sigs - no FTF or FTE - ever, with lots of magazines (all metal). The only malfunction in a Sig I had was related to aftermarket (Hogue) grips having extra material that was interfering with the mainspring.

While I have not personally had a malfunction with a Glock pistol, I have been at the range when a number of them occurred. I cannot vouch for the shooters, so I don't blame the weapon - in at least one case, I'm certain it was the shooter and in another it appeared a third party magazine was to blame.

In any event, I trust Sigs not to jam. A Glock is now my ready gun, but I have a Sig P245 which I would entrust my life, without hesitation, to function.

My G19 has jammed on me before but it was with a KCI mag so I blamed it on that.

I don't trust any gun not to jam until I test it.

Granted, I have some preconceived notions before trying one out, I don't trust it until it proves its worth.

It's funny you mention that - they stopped making the P245 in favor of the P220 compact. I was wondering what the difference was, but never enough to buy one (buying a Sig is a lifetime commitment ). Anyway, I was going to switch my primary gun to .40 S&W and was looking really hard at P229. However, I was also looking at the price. I'm military, so I'm eligible for Glock Blue Label, and I ended going that way on cost, and to finally see what all the Glock fuss was about.

I shot the last of my .45 ammo out of the P245 on the day I switched over - I can tell you the last 3 shots out of the P245 at 10 yards - chin, tip of nose, between the eyes, exactly where I aimed them. With the Glock, I'm lucky if 3 out of 4 hit the head.

Like a bunch of guys have already mentioned, I, also don't "hate" the Glock, I just don't like it's ergonomics FOR ME. In fact, I really don't recall having seen a lot of "hate" on this board directed at the Glock. A number of folks have mentioned the Glock's ergonomics and how poorly the Glock fits their hand. If that's what some folks interpret as "hate", so be it. As someone also already mentioned, I, also am annoyed by the Glock lover who comes on here and basically says that Glocks are the only handguns one should use for self defense.

Because the Glock's ergonomics don't fit me and there are other good self defense handguns that do, chances are I'll probably never own a Glock. OTOH, I do recognize it's usefulness. In fact, I recently helped a close friend select a self defense handgun. Wanna guess what he ended up buying??? A Glock Model 19.

I personally don't like them because of their action when you shoot them. The slide is too light IMO and they have a lot of rise when you shoot them (especially a .40 or .45) caliber model. I prefer the Springfield XD line. I feel like it is a much more solid gun and a more stable platform. It just really comes down to preference.

I own and have owned many pistols. I love my Glock (22) as much or more so than any of them.

The only people that 'hate' the glock are the one's who want you to fawn on their shiny 1911 as a general rule. Has nothing to do with function since the Glock is obviously superior there and it has everything to do with they just can't stand that their 100 year old pistol design isn't the apex of pistol engineering anymore.

It's like women with purses really. Some women like one that costs a ton and has a blinged out label and some women just need something to hold their shite. And since they both hold shite about the same the woman that spends a thousand dollars on her purse has to come up with some reason why it's worth that, and since she can't, she just has to shite talk the other womans bag.

And it's funny because being a Glock guy the only time I would ever think to shite on a 1911 is simply in retaliation to the nonstop spewing from the 1911 guys. Hell, I like the 1911. I think that grip angle is pretty much perfection. But that's not enough to make my eyes glaze over and tune out all the things that make the Glock design a much superior handgun for self defense.

But I'm not trying to compensate for anything.

It's funny, because most of the 1911 guys in this thread have said the exact same thing about Glocks.

G19 here. Thousands of rounds through it with no issues.

9 years old and it still shoots just fine.

Wife likes it too.

YMMV

Yeah and some of them go so far as to shite talk glocks even in their sigs so you have to take that with a HUGE grain of salt.

I don't really see why anyone would care what someone else is shooting. To me they're all just tools. Hole punches. If I'm shooting a 1911 I shoot it completely differently than I do if I shoot a glock. I just don't like all the external safeties and limited magazine capacity when there are better options available. But at the same time, the finest pistols I've ever shot were most definitely not Glocks. They were custom 1911's that I could stack bullets with all day long. So when I shoot a 1911 it's generally with accuracy in mind. When I shoot a Glock, I'm still shooting for accuracy, but I'm not worrying about running out of ammo so I'm double tapping.

They're just completely different animals. They both have their strong points and they both have weaknesses. For me though, and I have big hands and actually use a slip on rubber grip on my glock 17 because I don't like that two by four feel either, the balance sheet tips to Glock if it's for self defense.

But honestly, whatever you happen to have on you when you need it is the greatest pistol in the world.
