I'll say true, but offensive rankings can be deceiving. LSU often operates on a short field thanks to our defense and special teams, so I'm more concerned with our balance, 3rd down % and redzone efficiency than total yardage.
FWIW, six SEC teams finished in the top 50 last year. LSU averaged 374/ypg (85th) and would need to gain roughly 45 more yards/per to crack last year's top 50.

Forget national rankings. If he can get us to the top 3 in the SEC we goin to the ship.

3rd down %
This is what I will be looking at next year. Get the ball, keep the ball down. We haven't been doing well with keeping it lately, but I'm hoping Cam can get that fixed.
ETA: 45 more yards per game translates into 4 more first downs at minimum. 1 first down would have won the clemson game, two would've won against bama.

We are setting too low a bar, as a result of ole expectations.

If we're top 3 in the SEC, we may not lose a game.
A&M, UGA and Bama will all be great offensively next year, even with the attrition on the line for the Aggies and Bammers.

So aggravating. That's not even mentioning the ridiculous offense we fielded against Florida.

Top 50 offense the past 5 years we'd be about where Bama is now...NCs or contending for NC every year from 2009 to 2012. Our offense really has been pitiful.

Yeah, I don't think 4 first downs would have helped at all the way we played against UF last year.

top 30 in country #2 in the SEC

possible but, unless i am mistaken, offenses are ranked by YARDAGE GAINED. in today's flag football environment, LSU will probably never be much better than barely in the top 50. yardage gained is not the way to win football games against top competition. this seeming emphasis on yardage gained is fairly new in college football; i'm thinking it is spawned by the passing offenses of some schools and the video game generation. high powered offenses (oregon for example) aren't so high powered when they play good defenses (lsu, auburn) now are they.

Passing efficiency and 3 rd down completion % are way more important IMO

I will go with true. #50 in offense last year was at 408.5 ypg.
i rest my case. i really don't give a shite about yardage gained. i only care about points scored and time of possession. we gained over 400 yds against bama last yr and lost the game. to me, ranking an offense solely on yardage gained is lame as hell as doesn't take into acct the level of defenses played and other more impordtant variables.

+1
National rankings sort of give you an idea of where you stand, but the lack of common opponents or even level of those opponents scues those stats. We may have been 85 or whatever last year, but there were not 84 offenses that I would take over ours.

I believe Bama was ranked 31st in yards per game last season. With an experienced Mett, line, WRs, and backfield, LSU could certainly put up some salty numbers if Cameron is the guy.

So true

While this is true, we would have won those games if the defense didn't give their offense a free first down on those last drives. We need both units to perform.

Will Miles let him run the offense ?? So it depends on Miles .

Well his ravens offense was ranked top 50 in the nfl, so it should be no problem at the college level right?
