Rob Ryan "Perfect Fit" comes from Belichick/Parcells tree

After reading this article its easy to see why this is Sean Payton's frontrunner. I am sure Payton talked with Bill Belichick about Rob Ryan who was the Linebackers coach for the Patriots from 2000-2003. Bill must have gave him excellent marks and Eric Mangini also hired Rob Ryan as his DC when he was the head coach with the Browns. It is now clear that Rob Ryan actually hails from the Belichick/Parcells coaching tree and we know who Sean Payton gets his advice from. This is a great article to see why Rob Ryan is the frontrunner for the Saints DC positon. Not to mention he transitioned the Raiders from a 4-3 to a 3-4 so he has experience with what we hope to accomplish.
"Clark agreed with Ware's assessment, even adding that Ryan did a splendid job with the Raiders when he came in and switched the defense from a 4-3 to a 3-4 scheme, similar to the one that Ryan used as an assistant with the New England Patriots under Coach Bill Belichick and defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel."
While Ryan's arrival didn't bring immediate success, the Raiders did eventually rank third in the league in defense in 2006. Clark said he believes Ryan could have the same type of impact in New Orleans.
"He's a perfect fit for the Saints," Clark said. "He comes from a great football background, an attacking style. Rob Ryan prides himself on having a physical defense.

I'm not the biggest fan of this possible hire, but that does make sense about the transition. I trust people who know a lot more than I do and just hope to see the Saints with a top 20 D. If so, league fricked.

terrible defenses in 4 out of 5 years is what we want to accomplish?

First off, whatever Coach Payton decides, I'll be onboard.
But, given that Rob Ryan has had basically one solid defense in his time as a DC, and were not exactly loaded on talent, and with recently departed with a guy with a big attitude that kinda got us into this whole bounty thing, I don't see how CSP makes that choice. Just MO.

A cowboys castoff? A top 20 ranked def only once in 10+ years?? He has never been to the playoffs as a DC. WTF???

How many Rob Ryan defenses have made it to he playoffs? If Payton wants another Gary Williams, Ryan is his guy. Ryan seems to be a loud mouth who's bark is a lot louder than his bite.

Because only the defense determines whether you make the playoffs...
And why does Payton want a basketball coach?

I assume you meant Greg Williams. And the whole argument about how Ryan should not be DC bc of failure to reach playoffs in past is dumb.
BTW, did you know that no team has ever won a SB after losing last 3 games of regular season?

Gary Gibbs and Greg Williams illegitimate child?

That would be one shitty coach.

I really don't think Ryan is the hire

To be fair he's had one great defense and a few more solid ones. I really don't like him as our DC though. I want some young up and comer. I don't care if we only have him 3 years before he moves on. If that's the case he will leave us with a bad arse Defense.

At least know your facts before you make yourself look like a idiot.
2011 Cowboys Defense ranked 14th
2012 Cowboys Defense ranked 19th (with 7 injured starters out for year by week 11)

Can't keep his players healthy.
Loss of institutional control.
