quote:Yeah, the movie ending is so much more uplifting.
The movie ending is a serious mind frack but the book ending is worse because the mist never goes away.

Most fricked up ending to a movie, ever.

The details and reasoning as to your distaste for the movie were dynamite and made me really understand your position
Your reading comprehension skills are world class. You are in fact so gifted, that you may be entitled to an automatic Mensa membership. Anyway...

Thanks, Cokes!
Ahhh, now I remember. The link has more detail, but basically, the following:
The stupidity of the characters.
The annoying, over the top religious bitch.
Instant decision in the car at the end. Others, argued that they may have waited for awhile, but for time constraints the movie didn't show it.

Love the movie but can't watch the ending anymore. Glad to have seen it once bc it's that "great", but way too disturbing for me to watch again.

Murph, for what it's worth, I'd shoot you in the apocalypse if we were surrounded by a monstery mist and had run out of gas.
Because that's the kind of friend I am.

I can see how you qualified for Mensa, congrats.
I said I would have to find the thread; I forgot my reasons for hating it. Cokes found the thread for me. But now you know, and knowing is half the battle!
G.I. JOE!

In the writen story, the father narrates to the reader that they will try to drive out of the mist / keep going until they run out of gas. I believe he implies the shooting at the end by mentioning the number of shells left in the gun.
No, the story doesn't imply any shooting at all. They are simply driving south state by state filling up the car with gas from gas station to gas station trying to escape the mist. The story ends with the Dad hearing a short burst of what he thinks is a voice on the radio they have, implying that there is an area of the country not covered by the mist.
The ending of the movie was just straight lazy, retarded writing. A group of people do everything they can to survive and fight their way out, being extremely smart the entire flick, then get into the car and become complete idiots who immediately give up and become suicidal afterwards.
Who would want to stop and get more gas? Nah, let's just drive aimlessly and shoot ourselves instead!
I don't mind a negative ending, but the flipping of personalities and forced stupidity of the main characters was bad horror movie level.

Just wanna say I hated this movie, hated the ending. I watched it about a week after I read the book, don't know if that mattered or not.
