As for "Best. Song. Ever" I would probably go for:

Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven

It has been so successful that it is cliche. If you live in the Western World and don't know this song then you just don't listen to music, and you probably live under a rock.

A similar argument can be made for:

Beatles: Hey Jude

And to a lesser extent:

Beatles: A Day in the Life
Queen: Bohemian Rhapsody

This thread has turned into: "let's name obscure tunes that me look sophisticated"

I think a Best Song Ever needs to be known by at least 5% of the population.

It only needs to sound good to you, brother.

Here are two nominations that don't make sense at all, but I love them both.

Rolling Stones - Beast of Burden

no it doesn't. You need an objective standard. The question isn't "my most favorite song." Start a "most underrated song ever" to post obscure tunes you like. A thread like this isn't to listen to songs & see if they're good (those threads are great, btw).

For something to be the conversation for Best Song Ever, people need to be able to conversate about it.

When someone says Stairway or Day in the Life, we can discuss & get somewhere. When it's some KLSU tune from 1998, I mean really?

No such thing. If you Mr. Tigah are judging music by anything other than the effect it has on YOU, then you're judging something else besides music.

So many great songs already written.

I like simple.

The Beatles - Yesterday
Neil Young - The Needle and the Damage Done and Old Man
Gladys Knight and the Pips - Midnight Train to Georgia
Ray Charles - Georgia On My Mind

Just throwing some news ones out there. A lot of great, great songs have already been mentioned.

Only in Dreams - Weezer
Marvin Gaye's rendition of the National Anthem (would legitimately have sex to it)

Most of the other ones that come to mind have already been said
