My baby girl got attacked by a dog

No way in hell I post this on the OT. I'm just posting this to let any of you fathers of young children know that it's not just Pit bulls and Rottweilers who can attack people and do damage.
This was a neighborhood dog who did this while my girl was playing in the yard with her friend.Dog was chained and hiding under a car when she ran by.
I'll tell you what, from now on I'll make damn sure I go pay a personal visit to any home I know she visits and check on the kind of dogs they have. I met the parents before but really never thought to check on the dog they had.
I really don't want to say the exact breed of dog it was because this is still an ongoing thing right now but let's just say it was a small lbreed dog under 20#.
I feel like such a shitty father right now.
She spent like 7 hours in the ER.

The dog is dead now, right?

Man, that's a bad gash for a 20lb. dog to inflict.
Hope she gets well fast, at least y'all have the dog to test.

Oh my. Your poor baby. I hope that dog gets the death penalty. If it was my dog that done that he would have gotten a 357 to the dome.

I'm having trouble understanding this..? The dog was chained, under a car, and attacked your daughter while she was playing in the yard? How long of a chain was this?
And just tell us what type of dog it was
sorry about your girl though, I was attacked when I was younger, and I'm pretty much afraid of any dog that I do not know

First, Thank God she's gonna be ok.Second...Come on man..you are not a bad father so don't be so hard on yourself, getting bit by a dog is not common for most people, but kids getting cut or banged up is, when that happens ( and it probably will ) it will not mean your a bad father then either.
I have 2 kids and they are teenagers and never been bit by a dog, but they have been cut, bruised, and fell off their bikes alot, and yes it made me feel bad each time, but did not mean i was a bad pop, so hang in there man, just the fact you posted a pic on here says all i need to know about you being a good father.

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately there is no breed of dog that doesnt bite. Hope she gets healed up soon

Damn.
When my son was little, my lab nipped at him when he tried to come up behind her and lay on her back. . . never broke skin but left a mark for a few days. His mother just about had a fit about it and demanded we destroy the dog. A dog as big as she was could do some damage if she really wanted to, so I didn't think much of it- she was never a mean dog.
Fast forward a few years, and I get a call from my son's mother saying she was bringing him to the ER after HER dog (not sure of breed, but it was a pint-size dog) bit him in the face. . . His nose was bleeding from a few lacerations, two of which cut all the way through, as well as a couple other lacerations on his face, just under his eye. Had to bring him to a Plastic Surgeon to stitch him up. Fortunately, he recovered well- not afraid of dogs, and while he has scars, they have healed well.
Sorry to hear about your girl; you never want to see your child in pain. But don't beat yourself up about it- you can't foresee everything that will happen and you won't always be there to protect her.

I would also feel just like you do, meauxjeaux2. And I would be livid. Up here, a dog gets one "free" bite. After that first bite, the dog is considered vicious and the owners have more responsibility assigned to them for having a vicious dog. Now...legalisms aside, I'd kill the dog myself at first opportunity by any means I deemed necessary or possible. If the owners didn't voluntarily do what was morally right about this then I'd make sure the judge forced them to.

Since the dog is being observed, I take it that the owners did not have shot records? Is that the case?
Otherwise:
1. It's not your fault. If your daughter was invited over and the parent was aware, then it is her responsibility to properly supervise. The owner failed to do so.
2. Request the owner to pay for your medical bills not covered by your insurance.
2a. If owner refuses, file a claim against their homeowner's insurance policy. If a renter, file against the property owner's policy.
2b. If owner does own the house and they do NOT have homeowner insurance, you're just screwed.
3. Any decent homeowner will happily make an insurance claim for your incident. But if the dog owner is going to be a prick/bitch instead of doing the right thing, then see if you can get a lawyer who will pursue the insurance company on contingency and go for pain & suffering...will be a hell of a lot more than medical bills.

i guess times have changed. my favorite dog i ever had was a german shephard named "bullet". one day bullet bit one of my friends that was sleeping over. it was a pretty bad bite if you know what i mean. my dad immediately got his 12 gauge and killed bullet.

If my dog bit a child the childs father wouldn't have a chance to shoot it. But my dogs are raised better than that.
I know it a little different but I remember having a few roosters and chickens back in the day and the neighbor said one attacked his kid and my dad went out and shot them all (roosters) right then.
