Plus with Lacy he was not a position of need that we really needed to risk losing him to grades. Sure he is very talented but was he really that much better than the guys we knew would qualify?

You have to factor need when grades are an issue.

So I guess in baseball we shouldn't recruit a player that may go high in the draft or in basketball we shouldn't recruit a player that may jump to the NBA after 1 year? Those kids may not make it to campus.

Every school takes chances on academic risks. Bama is about to dump a kid too (or already did). Some guys are worth the risk. Obviously if we could get someone much betetr who would not be a grade risk, we would go that route

Agree. Schools will take chances if a prospect fits a specific need, is 6'4" and runs 4.4, etc. To them it is worth the risk vs. the kid who is an inch shorter but goes to class.

Did you intend to point out a downside somewhere in the post?

You suggest great angst at not being able to hold onto what we had and yet lament the fact that LSU took such risks in taking these verbals to begin with.

In short, you propose we not offer the guys that we lost.

I'm gonna guess you don't see the irony.

Well the last time I checked 5* recruits with 4.0 GPA's aren't that easy to come by.

On guys with potential academic issues??? Lawson, Cutrer, Leslie...No wonder Miles is out on the West Coast begging Willis to come here. Sorry guys, but I am disappointed. Instead of closing strong, we can't even hold on to what we had!!!

Dude, this is Louisiana. We're 49th or 50th in education. If you didn't take some calculated risks with some guys' academics, you'd miss a LOT of talent.

And if we didn't take a chance on those guys and the wind up qualifying at another prominent school, you have "the sky is falling folks" crying about we can't keep the LA guys instate. Oh no the fence is broken crap.

Yep, like Eddie Lacy...although I heard it was next to a miracle how he ever qualified, but regardless, sometimes you have to take the chance...
