Well, it will be good at least, but I was hoping for a more inspired choice. Pretty much what he did with Star Trek is do exactly what Episode I should have been. Have Anakin be a troubled youth who gets recruited into the Jedi and makes an honest friendship with Obi Wan Kenobi.
JJ Abrams should do a by-the-books Star Wars movie, and I look forward to it. Really wish they could have gotten Brad Bird to do it. I highly suspect that the producers are pretty much going to be taking control of this film over Abrams himself. Here's an article from Cinemablend that supports this hypothesis: LINK

wrap is usually pretty legit.
I'll have to take your word for it. Regardless, printing this without any confirmation from either JJ or Disney's reps is pretty amateurish.

Just looked up his bio and apparently he was also involved in LOST. that worries me a bit.
JJ gets too much credit for LOST. He was really just involved in the Pilot, and not much after that. He wasn't really creatively involved past the Pilot, and its clear he had no clue what the frick he was doing and just decided to make it balls to the walls awesome and have other people worry about the technicalities of the show later.

Hmm, lack of Lens Flare Lightsaber fight jokes. Tigerdroppings slipping...

This will send the Trekkies over the edge if true. Especially if it ends up pushing back releases of subsequent STs.

didn't Abrams turn this down due to conflict with the Trek franchise? Is he walking away from that?

thr also getting in on this. smoke.
Ok. If Hollywood Reporter is going with it, I'm starting to let my guard down a bit.
I'll stick in this holding pattern until we get an official confirmation though.

I want to know about this too. I love Star Wars and all but that new Star Trek universe that JJ has going is just so damn good.

Can't fault JJ for LOST. That train wreck was the result of Damien Lindenlof and Carlton Cuse. (sp?). I should have known LOST was screwed when I learned the guy who brought us Brisco County Jr was in charge.

Not seeing who shot first because of the lens flare. That will make everyone happy.

This will be good. I hope there are more alien jedi in this one. And give us a badass villain

the good thing is he won' be boxed in by a story that everyone knows the ending to. he has a legit writer adn they should be able to create some characters that you care for unlike the prequels

Good news: more alien Jedi
Bad news: They will always be shrouded in shadow and you'll never get a clear look at them.
Actually, I like this choice a lot. Abrams makes really good populist sci-fi. That is what Star Wars is, and if he can repair the Star Wars brand the way he has brought Star Trek back from the brink, than it's a complete win.
(I will reserve this space for the hipster backlash)
Lens flares are cool.

Star Wars needs JJ WAYYYYYYYY more than JJ needs Star Wars
that's probably why he agreed to do it
