So we know this season is only half way done, but I for one am really excited about next year's roster. Reading this quote from ESPN on Martin didn't help much...

quote:

Martin, who committed to the Tigers on Thursday in an assembly at Madison Prep Academy, is the most coveted recruit to commit to the Tigers since Glen "Big Baby" Davis, who was ranked as the nation's No. 13 player when he pledged in 2004. If LSU coach Johnny Jones was hired to improve recruiting, Martin's pledge is proof that he's delivering.

quote:

Martin sees his versatility as being similar to a particular player who never even considered attending North Texas.

"I'd say I see my game like LeBron James -- I just take whatever is there," Martin said. "If a big guy is on me I'll go out and use my perimeter game, if a small guy is on me I'll go down low."

In light of that versatility and willingness, the presence of other big men among LSU commits could be a boon for Martin offensively.

So with LSU poised to have arguably it's first complete team since 2006, what do you project as the starting lineup?

Starting
PG - Anthony Hickey
SG - Malik Morgan
SF - Jarrell Martin
PF - Johnny O'Bryant
C - John Odoh(Odo)

Bench (In order of PT)
PF - Jordan Mickey
PG - Tim Quarterman
SF - Shavon Coleman
SG - Andre Stringer
SF - Shane Hammink
PF - Jalen Courtney
PG - Corban Collins

Hard to see Andre Stringer coming off the bench.

He was coming off the bench at the very beginning of the season, and then Hickey's reduced PT along with Corban Collins' inconsistency opened the door for his fiery return

Funny you mention them...

quote:

But it's Martin who stands out among the trio of prospects. LSU has had other top players since Davis, but stars such as Tasmin Mitchell (No. 20, Rivals) in 2005, J'Mison Morgan (No. 26, ESPN), Aaron Dotson (No. 45, ESPN) in 2009 and Johnny O'Bryant (No. 46, ESPN) in 2011 were all highly regarded recruits, but not as much as Martin.

While Morgan can most certainly earn the 2 starting spot over Stringer, he'll have to get a lot of better on defense. Plenty of time between then and now (especially considering how much Morgan has progressed just in the past two weeks).

I change out Malik for Stringer and that's pretty much it. The rotation will be the interesting part because we should have 10 people who will be fighting for minutes.

what shitty problem to have

that's what makes me excited. I'll be a senior next winter and that's the only thing that's lacked in my college experience is an extremely competitive basketball team. Next year is gonna be a great compilation of naive youth and savvy vet's . Any competition is great competition. Should be a great season

I would say 08-09. People forget just how good that team was due to the disdain for TJ and the awful seeding (#8) LSU got in the NCAAT as the SEC regular season champ.

That said, I see Morgan starting at the 2. Stringer will be a Sr. but I just don't like the two sub-6' guard starting line-up. Still would love to see Stringer become LSU's version of the "microwave" coming off the bench.

He did well coming off the bench to start the season, but earned a starting spot by playing much better than Morgan.

I dont see us starting Odoh and O'Bryant III together, we dont want to wear our 2 biggest guys. I think you'll see...

PG - JR. Hickey
SG - SO. Morgan
SF - SR. Coleman (if he becomes a true 3)
PF - FR. Martin
C - JR. O'Bryant III

SG Stringer (15-20 min a game)
PG Quarterman (15-20 min a game)
C Odoh (15-20 min a game)
SF/PF Mickey (10-15 min a game)
SF Shane Hammink (5-10 min a game)
PF Jalen Courtney (0-5 min a game)
PG/SG Corban Collins (0-5 min a game)

This gives us the length to give pretty much any team problems in the starting lineup and then bring guys like Quarterman, Stringer, Odoh and Mickey off the bench where we wont see near as much dropoff unlike this year with our 2nd guys. Hammink can be a guy we can put on another teams SG/SF/PF who is giving us problems to give him a solid D man on him to slow him down at times. Courtney and Collins get minutes in blowouts/dregs.

Coleman's play has dropped of significantly in the past few games. He needs to get back to playing basketball before we name him a starter.

Did people not see quarterman on tv the other night? I think the guys got a chance to come in and be a star right off the bat. Guys gotta be a starter next year IMHO.

I think were supposed to sign one more player before this class is done too. Either Deng Deng, 6'8 215 JUCO PF or Brian Bridgewater. So I think if we sign one of these two more than likely Jalen Courtney is told to transfer or walk on.

Because he's playing the 4 right now. I knew going into SEC play he would dip down quite a bit playing the 4 instead of the 3. Just cant be a successful 6'5, 200lb PF in this league (around the rim). He needs to shoot a bit better and in my lineup I have him as a 3. If he can be a true 3, he'd be really good. Martin and O'Bryant III would clear up a lot for him.

Hickey is the starting PG, period. Unless Quarterman is a fantastic shooter (and I mean >40% 3pt), he wont start. We need him to come off the bench and be our 2nd ball handler behind Hickey. If we started both Hickey and Quaterman...who comes off the bench to play PG when both are worn out? Collins? Stringer?

We have 1 more spot available scholarship wise, dont have to tell anyone to take a hike.

Agreed. His shooing must improve for him to be on the floor as a 3.
