yeah, I am not in chains very often either. I did enjoy the BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse in Century City in Los Angeles and wanted to know how the one in Baton Rouge compared. Our hotel in LA was right next to a BJ's so we ate there a couple of times. I had a good shrimp scampi and my sister enjoyed the fish tacos....

That's usually what I do too to avoid a random bad server. Bartenders in chain restaurants usually have been working there the longest and have the most experience. It just seems at BJ's that the servers are trained very poorly. Waiting tables is easy. Drinks, take app order, if no app come back to take order, refill drinks, take order, bring food, refill drinks and ask if everything is ok, fetch random item and or more drinks, ask if they want dessert, bring check, make money. Done. Very easy concept they cannot grasp.

It's not so much that servers are rude or anything there; just that they tend to forget about me every time I've been. I don't know if they are given too big of sections, if they don't have strict management, or what.. but every time I've been, service was very slow.

Going late at night (which is pretty much the only time I go), it's even worse.

Honestly, I had a company rep in town around December that wanted something to eat and we were on somewhat of a schedule and in the area, so we elected to give it a shot. We barely got seated and looked at the menu, looked at each other and said we'd rather not. Looked like a glorified Denny's, very unappetizing. We made our excuses, and elected to go to Chelsea's instead, cutting out one of our stops. It was for the best.

Not that BJ's is some mecca of greatness, but isn't Denny's a breakfast place (with a few diner-type dinner items thrown in)?

I'm missing the correlation between the two.

I can understand comparing it to Cheesecake Factory or something, but Denny's?

Okay... Chilis

Boring to death. There was nothing that inspired me or my guest in the least, and when the pictures next to the menu item doesn't even cut it, I dare to see the dish when it comes to my table.

I agree that it is meh. I would say above average meh. I think the beer and bar save it for me. Food is decent. I actually like the big menu. Gives a variety of choices. And I've never actually had bad service there. Not sure if I'm too easy going or what but my drinks were always kept filled and I never had to go looking for my waiter/waitress. I do like the fact that it serves food so late. Nothing special. But not horrible. Much worse options out there.

If you sit at the bar the service is better, but otherwise you are correct

We literally take large groups of our employees so they can see how not to serve a large party there.

I never went back after two ba experiences with service and food

I was in the area recently and wanted a decent beer so I hit it up. I sat at te bar and the service was a complete 180. The kitchen sucked though, brought out my Togo pizza on a plate and took 10 min to box it up

I've never had a bad experience there. Good beer selection and I like the food options.

BJ's food and beer are good .. we always eat at the bar .. the only time i sat at a table, the service was really terrible, but the place is always packed .. might be THE biggest menu in BR and i haven't had a bad thing yet ..

only problem is that virtually everyone has figured this out and the bar stays packed most of the time .. and it is a big bar ...

Use to go there all the time then I decided to check their nutritional content online and almost every dish was over 1,000 calories with most being over 1,500. Just like Cheesecake Factory they cook everything with a stick of butter and oil.

Haven't been back sense

this actually shocks you ?? welcome to the world of eating out .. restaurants advertise and trumpet their dishes that are 550 calories or less .. and then, the only reason it is that low is because the portion size is tiny .. all restaurant meals .. even the ones that you would think would be healthy .. are high in calories .. you can prepare most of those dishes yourself at home and knock the calories way down .. if you are on a diet, eating out is the death of that diet ..

Seriously...

That's why the SO and I split dishes and split apps.

Who needs an entire bowl of pasta + extras by themselves unless you plan to take it home for leftovers?

Almost all the burgers at restaurants now are 1/2 burgers with an entire plate of fries.

i think if people delved into the nutritional info of most dishes at their favorite places, they'd be shocked how many calories are actually in them .. salads might be THE biggest myths at restaurants .. these places pump out four digit calorie salads under the guise of "light fare" on the menu regularly ..
