Would cost a lot of money for an NCAA team. If you're going to have a real team, you need a public rink for them to play on (not Leo's) and practice facilities. Not to mention coaches, player scholarships, equipment, et cetera. Finally, travel costs. There is only one NCAA hockey team in the southern United States, Alabama-Huntsville (not the main campus, the Huntsville campus.) The next-closest teams are in Colorado, Illinois and Ohio.
You could satisfy Title IX by having a women's hockey team too, but it's just very expensive. We already have an athletic department with a spotty record of supporting Olympic sports. No chance that they start up hockey teams. I'd love to see it because I enjoy going to hockey games, but it's not happening.

Hockey? Hockey!? Dude, we'll have Quidditch before we have hockey!

Depends on your definition of waste. I'd love to go to LSU hockey games. I think a lot of others would too. It would take away from investments in other sports though, which is a fair argument.

Soccer before hockey imo.

LOTS of (club) hockey in the south. Hockey all over Florida. Lots of Yankee and Canadians here in Florida to support it.

Men's soccer would be next on the slate, but that will NEVER happen.

Hockey is only slightly less boring than soccer...and that's pretty boring.
I have nothing but respect for the guys who play hockey. They are amazing athletes.
But that being said, I'd personally watch DVR'd LSU football games from seasons past before spending a moment on hockey (or soccer). I just cant take watching guys skate around a rink all night and waiting for a 1-0 score or (if I'm lucky) a scorefest like 2-0 or even 2-1. The hits are the only thing keeping this from being like watching soccer on ice (soccer doesn't even have the hits).

It's not a great tv game. It's fun as hell to see in person.

Yep, Title IX LSU got rid of a top 5 wrestling team because of this stupid rule.
Tell me more about this wrestling team.
Because, if you didn't know, LSU is actually involved in a case taught in Sports Law classes on Title IX. Its actually kind of funny what the university did to try to avoid its measures.
Peterson I believe is the case name.

Per game attendance for college hockey is usually better than college baseball, but don't tell any lsu baseball fans.

Baseball starts in February. I wouldn't attend the world series in February if I living in the north. Its cold as shite.
What else are they going to watch at the University of Maine, in January, in Maine?

LSU, along with the rest of the SEC, needs men's soccer. Title IX did its job and needs to go. Men's soccer would be pretty decent and there's a lot of talent down south but people quit playing since SEC schools don't have a team besides Kentucky and I think USCe has one

Title IX
Also the reason that there is no:
Men's Boxing
Men's Soccer
Men's Lacrosse
Men's Hockey

LSU AD has already said if they could add another sport the first one on the slate is men's soccer. 3 of the last 7 Hermann trophy winners, college soccer's Heisman, have been from Louisiana. New Orleans consistently puts up some of the highest per capita soccer viewing numbers in the country. But it just won't happen bc of Title IX

I played on the club roller hockey team when I was a student. Never really got enough funding to travel and play other schools. We would have mostly played Texas schools and maybe one or two Mississippi schools.

If you grew up when the Icegators, Kingfish and Brass all had solid attendance seasons you likely played in the south if you were from the north or became an instant fan. Most of us grew up playing it, starting somewhere in 1993-1998 and were diehards enough to play in Baton Rouge.
Lafayette, Baton Rouge and New Orleans all has very small adult leagues ongoing right now, without those around and thriving it is hard to have enough students to field a college team at UNO, ULL and LSU.

I would love to see LSU get a hockey team, but unfortunately I don't see it ever happening anytime soon.
