it actually matters- IF this Ronaldo guy has this thing set up for years and has used "her" on others...well Te'o could have just been next
He punked someone in 2008 for like a month before the person he was punking found out he was a fraud - if we are to believe the word of anonymous people who refused to be put in front of a camera and refused to have their names put on the record.
Everything about that story from 2008 is all based on second-hand information from anonymous sources.

They talked every night, for four months, for eight hours a night. According to Te'o in the original SI article, they had been "dating" since October 2011
got it, thx
so technically they were a couple for 9 months or so and never met
that is pushing it, you are correct

fwiw I wouldn't do it. What good does it do them? Let everyone know they got punked too? No thanks
Something sticking with me though. The car accident. Ronaldo or whatever could have killed her off right then and there and nothing would have come of it.....the car accident to leukiemia "timeline" could be key.
If Te'o became "invloved with the dupe" it would be at that point IMO
Idk why they wouldn't finish her off then and there with the car accident, sticking to me for some reason

Regardless of whether he's telling the truth, he'll soon see just how big embarrassment can get.
Update (2:34 a.m.): ESPN has removed all references to the woman claiming to be Lennay showing up at the team hotel from its online story. There is no explanation, note, or correction in their story.
From Deadspin's article after Espn's interview last night. I get the feeling we gonna hear some more from them on Monday

They weren't punked, they claimed to know people who were. The woman who was interviewed said she received a call from Tuiasosopo in early-December where he tearfully confessed to punking Te'o. The man claimed his cousin was hit by Tuiasosopo back in 2008. The only reason they gave for remaining anonymous is that they feared retribution.
ESPN ran with anonymous, second-hand sources in an attempt to paint Te'o in a good light. Until I see phone records, receipts, and Tuiasosopo's confession, I will continue to believe that Manti Te'o was, at the very least, partially complicit in this scheme.

so much crap in this story it's easy to lose track (I have many times )

Hawaiian Hit-men??? Hmmm movie idea

certainly you have that right. Im still on the fence. I do think the guy is very very simple. But like I said earlier, the transition from car wreck to leukiemia is where my questions arise
eta: I might have killed the thread it's a special skill i have

Ronaiah was working angles for a leukemia "charity". The interview of Mantis uncle was linked on here last night and was pretty damning what he said about Ronaiah

Yet he didn't ask for money so that angle is weak as frick.

From the released edited ESPN Schaap interview:
Te'o revealed that he told his mother of the hoax on Christmas Eve -- even though he knew weeks in advance that Kekua was, at the least, still alive. Te'o then told his father on Christmas day, and decided that Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly should be notified of the hoax.
Te'o called Kelly and told him the story over the phone. Kelly's initial reaction is as puzzling as the entire story.
JEREMY SCHAAP: So you tell Kelly. First you tell your D-coordinator, then you tell Kelly. What was the conversation like Brian Kelly?
MANTI TE'O: Coach Kelly just said she's dead. That's how we're going to go about it. She's dead. When you come in, we'll talk about it. That's all he said.
Yes, Notre Dame's head coach told Te'o that they're going to continue to operate as if Kekua is dead. At least, until Kelly, Te'o and other Notre Dame personnel had a chance to talk about how to handle the situation in person.

So he drug the coach into this and is now telling everyone? I'm sure the ND football program is thrilled.

I did and Schaap was weak as frick. Teo pretty much blames the newspaper reporters for all the fake details of them meeting, which makes no sense, and Schaap just lets him go with that.

This shite just keeps getting better and better.
I don't know what's funnier though: Manti lying his arse off, or all the people believing his lies.

Yea, so no follow up questions like,
"Hey Manti, when the South Bend Tribune was reporting that you and Lennay met in 2009 at a Stanford game, why not correct them?"
I guess that would be considered rude to ask questions like that, right?

seems like they truthfully believe him
the Kelly stuff is strange. Did Kelly think Te'o was losing it, thinking the girl was somehow alive? Did Kelly understand that it was a hoax and she didn't exist? Or did he think she is real and Te'o is having a meltdown cause he somehow thinks she is alive when he(Kelly) knows she is dead
very strange.

Notre Dame gonna Notre Dame. Fairy tales, fantasy land, coverups.

Have you followed the story from the beginning? Or even read the deadspin article??
The only reason Teo "came clean" to his coaches is because the girl used in the photos called Ronaiah after she had been contacted by deadspin. He obviously told Teo that all of this was going to get out.
