Recs for a concealed carry(Non-1911 or Glock)

Headed to a "try before you buy range/store" next weekend to shoot some rounds. While there, I am going to look at a new CC.
As I get lost when more options placed in front of me, I am wanting to go in with an agenda. I am looking for a compact to smaller full size, of the non-1911(KR )/glock variant. Any recs on any "high powered" murderers? Price, looking to stay away from a grand(retail), maybe 400-800ish

SR9c, LC9, or LCP for a pocket pistol.

Thanks
PX4 compact? any good?
not really looking for a "pocket pistol", as in a sub-compact, but more of a smaller hip/back holstered

There were lots of recommendations for pocket pistols, but that's not really "compact to smaller full size". Taking the baby Glocks (and mids, like the excellent Glock 19 and Glock 23), out, I automatically default to Sig (my brand of preference) - in the used market you could definitely find Sig P228, P229 and P239 within your price range, and the polymers are priced even better (and a new may be in reach). The P220 compact is also an excellent choice in .45 ACP.
The P239 would be the ideal Sig for CC. The Kahrs, CM-9, CM-40, PM-9 and PM-40 would all be candidates, as would the M&P Shields. H&K USP compact might slip into your price range (or, again, like with the Sigs, you could go used market).
A pocket pistol that doesn't get nearly as much attention as it used to is the Seecamp LW, in .32 ACP. I'm just not as much a fan of the blowbacks as I used to be, as we have so many more choices of smaller platforms firing full power cartridges - though my Walter PPK (never should have traded it in) was the best pistol I ever shot, and I usually shot it one-handed.

If you don't want a Glock, or 1911, I'd look hard at the Smith M&P series

NYCA,
Congrats on the impending new gun!! The only thing better than someone getting a new gun is when I get a new gun.
I understand you're NOT looking for a pocket gun, Glock or 1911. OTOH, the terms we use describing a category of gun (e.g. subcompact, compact, midsize, full size, etc) are very subjective, and oftentimes confusing. Just to help me get an idea of what size of gun you ARE looking for, let me ask you one question: For purposes of size comparison only, are you looking for something SMALLER, same size or BIGGER than a Glock model 19?

I'd say right about that size
6-7" long 4.75-5.5" tall

Smith and Wesson M&P 9c. That's what I carry. My next gun will be the M&P shield, basically a single stack version of the compact

Yes. I own the full size and carry it, a buddy has the SC and carries that. I love mine.

Definitely P229, then - get it in .40 and buy the .357 barrel (after all, Sig invented the .357 automatic) - 2 guns, but I'd up your budget to about $1000.
A little heavy, but definitely a lifetime purchase.
