I am a big rum guy and keep my eyes open for new brands. It's always nice to see something "homegrown". I actually drive threw lovely Lacassine often and will have to soon stop at this place.

Very interesting. I enjoy a good sugar cane rum. I need to get more into rum .. just too scared things will be too much like Bacardi, which is fricking awful.

quote:Could not agree more. In my experience top shelf rum or GOOD rum isn't as well stocked at places as other things. You can find Captin Morgan anywhere which is ok.
Bacardi, which is fricking awful.
I recently discovered 10 Cane rum and Pyrat rum.
Pyrat is made by the people from Patron.
Both are high end, potent, and tasty.

I think Old New Orleans Rum is pretty good, but I'll be the first to admit I wouldn't know good rum if it hit me in the face. I try and keep a bottle of their dark rum around the house.

Saylor Jerry is also another good rum that is becoming more available.

Go give El Dorado a sip.

Good info. I'll have to check them out. I've had Captain Morgan and Sailor Jerry's and didn't care for them really, although better than Bacardi. I'm on a quest to find rum stateside that is as good as the local rums I've had in Belize.

I had some fantastic rum from Turks and Caicos last weekend. Made a cocktail with some honey lime juice and rum over ice and was feeling good.

I love rum, I'm pumped about the local distillery too. I've always thought rum would appeal to more folks down here in Louisiana due to the amount of sugarcane grown, and our proximity and ties to the Caribbean.
Their website is up now too. Bayou Rum

Captain Morgan Private Stock >>> Pyrat
Mount Gay rum is pretty good.
Myers is a decent dark rum
Bundaberg from Australia is pretty good too.

Got Pyrat as an xmas gift. I prefer private stock. Currently I have neither in my liquor cabinet. I have some sailor jerry's, myers, and mount gay in there now.

Where you getting that mount gay?
Posted on 1/15/13 at 3:42 pm to JohnZeroQ
I second Mount Gay, as well as Appleton. You should be able to find these at local liquor stores as well as stores like Albertsons. They make a few different rums, but the casual drinker of both are in $16-20 price range.

No Albertsons down the bayou. I have never seen this at Rouses or other local groceries.
