I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that those numbers were a guess by you? Those kind of numbers are unheard of in two areas within one parish, much less a total state wide count. 30-50k maybe.
No, they were done by the feds and local game wardens. Neither of the two places are mine. I have no reason to come in here and make this up.

Question to all
Do you ever see ducks so high that you don't bother calling to them?
When blowing your call as loud as you can does it bother the guy next to you?

I believe mallards are starting to change their habit to avoid certain things. Hunting pressure, Snow geese, new farming practices, and a few more that I will not mention because yall will think I have completely lost my marbles.
I think pressure has really changed the hunting severely. I also think ducks have become accustomed to using refuges much more than ever before and that less rice is available in fields from better farming practices. Add in the explosion of corn fields with government ethanol mandates, especially in states like Kansas, Iowa, and Missouri at mid latitudes and mallards have evolved to take advantage. Eliminating mechanical decoys would help somewhat especially juvenile birds getting killed up north.

What about the other half?
Sub par, but it depends on where they hunt.

I killed quick limits in places last year and saw thousands of duck, where this year you are lucky to kill 3 scaup.
I have traveled east, west, north and south. Hunted different states. Just not seeing many birds.
Maybe the shift to the west is happening more rapidly than I thought. I havent hunted texas

Stop blaming DU for your poor duck hunts!
Its not their fault you probably hunet public land
You get what u pay for!
We have private land in central louisiana and have killed good all season.
It does not take a rocket scientist to know that if missouri and arkasas are not frozen over with the rest of the central us ducks do not have to go further south.
It has been a banner year, just not for the people who bitch first and do nothing in advance!

Not me. Hell, if it wasn't for an outstanding teal season, this would have been a HUGE waste of money for me.

Where did I blame DU? I'm pretty sure the title says DU - DW and was pointing to the number of waterfowl reported pre-season.

I do "hunet" a couple sections of public land created and sponsored by the DU. So, in a way, it is their fault.

This contradicts This...

Got friends that hunt the Wax and they've done fine. Picked their mallards, then the pintails, then finished with grays.
Me, I'm perfectly fine with the limits of grays we've been shooting.
Now not every weekend was like that for them, but weather plays a big part in duck hunting, and we haven't had that much yet..
