DU - DW Wild arse conspiracy

This has been the worst duck season I can remember.
Ive talked to a bunch of people who feel the same way.
The hype preseason from DU and DW with crazy bird numbers etc was pretty high. Top that with the drought and no crops etc in midwest and this was supposed to be a banner year.
Could it be these numbers are BS to keep the dollars flowing?

My worst season ever. They definitely lied about the numbers.

Nah, I know of two places in one parish that are holding around 250-300K mallards respectively.

According to the feds, the largest number a couple of weeks ago was 30,000 and that was around Mer Rouge. Everyone I know says it is the worst season ever.

East. No they are not DU reserves. Privately owned property. This may have now changed since all the rain we have caught. Haven't talked to anyone in the past week or so. If the ducks they had left, which I doubt they will be spread so thin it will be almost impossible to kill anything. Duck season is all but over right now.

This year and last year have been two of the best seasons we've ever had. We've always done well, but we've got more grays than anything and it doesn't take long at all to get limits.
I have never put too much faith in the duck counts. Even if the counts are high, that doesn't mean you're going to do well.

Lots of ducks have been killed in Texas and Oklahoma that I know of. We've had some great mallard shoots. Also know of a good deal of killing that has taken place in NE LA and Arkansas. I think this season has been really spotty for lots of people but there have been a lot of ducks in certain places. The average rice field hunter south of I-10 probably doesn't agree but there are ducks to be had.

They did the counts on the places I am talking about. I think this count done was last week.

I cut my teeth killing ducks around Monroe, La. Those days seem to be over. I believe mallards are starting to change their habit to avoid certain things. Hunting pressure, Snow geese, new farming practices, and a few more that I will not mention because yall will think I have completely lost my marbles. This year wasn't my best but I am more than satisfied. Some folks only know how to kill ducks that are living in the area. I have been killing ducks for the past several years that are "traveling" ducks. There is not a rice field within many, many miles of where I hunt yet we kill Mallards with rice in their craw. I have my own opinions and could be made to believe that there are "paper" ducks being counted but there is still plenty of ducks making the trip every year.

I'd guess that the duck lake impoundment next to catahoula lake is one of them. Heard it was absolutely loaded with greenheads.

We killed limits of mallards pretty consistently for about 4 weeks from the first December front until a week and a half ago in N TX. Whatever that little cold front had in it that came through on the 5/6th it moved all the ducks out overnight. Haven't heard if they've moved back in after the rain, but unless you have access to a good freshly flooded pasture or new water in the woods it's probably gonna be hard.

Ducks are here than not here.
Sometimes the sky is black with them and the next there is nothing.
over all it has ben a pretty good year

Half of the hunters I've talked to seemed to have had a decent year

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that those numbers were a guess by you? Those kind of numbers are unheard of in two areas within one parish, much less a total state wide count. 30-50k maybe.

What about the other half?
