Mayor Vincent Gray of Washington, D.C., said the Redskins must consider a name change if the team wants to move from FedEx Field in Landover, Md., to a stadium inside the District of Columbia.
“I think that if they get serious with the team coming back to Washington, there’s no doubt there’s going to have to be a discussion about that,” Gray said at a news conference Wednesday.
"I think it has become a lightning rod, and I would love to be able to sit down with the team and see if a change should be made. There’s a precedent for this, and I think there needs to be a dispassionate discussion about this, and do the right thing.”

Snyder doesn't give a flip about moving back to DC. He owns the stadium already and he won't change the name unless it will some how bring him a billion dollars. Political grandstanding is all the mayor is doing.

is nothing sacred anymore?

Why would they move back? They play in the biggest stadium in the league, and it's only 12 years old.

Cornball Brother's has to be in the top 5

Does a "mayor" even have that sort of power? Who is he to make a demand like that?

I doubt Snyder give a frick

I'm so glad DCs mayor took a moral stand on an issue that will never actually become a reality, at least in his tenure.
Grandstanding I believe the term for it.

Already a thread on the political board, but they would just be moving the teams offices over there. Fwiw I would tell them to frick off and let them lose out on the tax revenue.

Never going to happen. I have a 1/2 NA friend who wants them to, but you can tell it really doesn't bother him.

What a joke.
"Hey, after that lease ends on your 12 year old, enormous stadium build specifically for your team, and you want to come back to DC where everything costs more and there is no room to build you anthing comparable, we're going to have to have a serious discussion about the name. I'm serious!"

You'd think he'd be more upset about having a basketball team named the Wizards

Just imagine the horror if they were still named the Bullets.

The term "Caps" promotes violence as well, IMO.
