re: Sacramento Kings being sold to Seattle led Group

It's great for Seattle fans. I don't blame them at all for wanting a new team, especially with how the Thunder became so successful shortly after leaving. I just don't get why the Kings couldn't be sold to a local group. They will have great fan support with a new ownership group instead of the worst owners in the NBA.

How long will it take for Seattle to not care about this team? 5-7 years?
Seattle successfully supported a team for 40 years. I think there's potential it will be the same, but at the same time, there's A LOT of burned bridges with fans here. If anything, people here will want to support our local businessmen who stepped up and made it all happen.

They better replace Key Arena after 2013-2014... that place was a big reason why they left in the first place. Awesome location in Seattle but the facility itself is a dump.
especially compared to the other pro facilities in that city

Good California already has way too many teams. Kings fans can just cheer for the Warriors. It's 1 hour 15 minute drive. That's about how long it takes me to get to the Hornets games from the Northshore. Basketball belongs in Seattle.

Stern has to have had the most teams switch cities under his watch out of all sports.

Ironic that Seattle could be robbing another great fanbase of their team.
Just like when Baltimore stole the Browns.

Meh, bound to happen with the amount of time he served as commish.
Who was baseball's commissioner after Happy Chandler? They had a lot of moves in a relatively short time (Braves, A's, Browns, Dodgers, Giants, Senators).

relocating Seattle Stars (from Dallas).
Are the Stars really thinking about a move? I thought they had a solid fan base.
If that move happens, they might change the name to the Metropolitans. Lot of history there including the last non-NHL team to win the Stanley Cup.

I thought the Stars were in Minnesota. They were in Mighty Ducks anyway. I don't follow the NHL.

Interesting history. Started out as the Minnesota North Stars in 1967. About 10 years later, the Cleveland Barons folded and were absorbed by Minnesota.
In the early 1990s they wanted to move to San Jose. The league decided to undo the Barons merger and give the North Stars owners the San Jose team (the Sharks). The Sharks took half the roster with them and both teams participated in an expansion draft.
In 1993 the new owners of the North Stars moved the team to Dallas and dropped the now-oxymoronic "North" from the name.

Wasn't it just a few years ago that Sacramento ponied up some tax dollars to keep the Kings playing there?

Not so fast..

The owner claims he isn't. But he's from Vancouver and has no ties to Dallas.

To the extent any southern hockey team has one, they do. But it still isn't enough. I've been to several games and the majority of fans in attendance are supporting the visiting team.

Just another example of a pro sports team forcing a city to subsidize their arena.
"Pay us or we'll leave."
"Pay us or we'll leave."

That's the proposed new Arena? Wtf?
Again, WTF?!
Again, WTF?!

That might be the wierdest looking basketball arena I've ever seen.

You can't sum it up that simply. There was way more to it.

Right. Sonics fans were lied to by Bennett who said e would keep team in Seattle. Everyone knew the truth that he wanted to move them to OK. Team sucked, owners lied, and attendance dropped. The Sonics left as Bennett had planned.
Seattle is looking to get a new team. No one is telling Sacramento that the ownership group will try to keep them on Sacramento. The plan up front is to move the team.
Big difference. Sucks for Sacramento fans. But they can find an ownership group of their winning they want to keep them. Nothing like what Bennett said and planned to do behind the scenes.

That was my first reaction too
Apparently they said not to focus on the rust color though. That big volcano looking thing will be able to change colors to whatever they want. That makes it a little bit better, but still weird.
