Should NFL and NBA teams fund Minor league football and basketball for those athletes who have no desire to continue in academics but wish to pursue professional athletics as MLB has been doing for nearly 100 years?

does the D League count as minor league?

There is an NBA minor league.

The NBA already has the D-League, but to answer your question...No for football. You already have high school and college. 18 year old kids aren't physically ready to handle the rigors of pro ball IMO

What do you mean by should? They are not obligated to do so. Minor league baseball exists that's not a farm system, it also is profitable on some level or if would go out of business.
Because college and HS football are so popular, minor league FB probably wouldn't be.

I like how exclusive the NFL is. With the new CBA, teams aren't handcuffed to shitty rookies like they were in the past. Therefore, shitty players will find themselves out of the league sooner, keeping the NFL rich in talent.

i dont think it is necessary

Cfl, NFL Europe, Ufl fit the bill

It takes a LONG time for baseball prospects to develop into an MLB-ready player, longer to reach their full potential. 2-3 years in the minors before MLB seems to generally be the minimum. Once they get to the majors, it isn't uncommon that a guy doesn't get accustomed to the game until 28 or so.
Trout is a once in a generation talent that is an exception to this. Besides, college athletics is the development system for football and basketball.
Basketball players can jump straight from high school, or one year of college to the NBA and become instant studs. Footall players generally require a bit more time to develop, though i'd argue running backs (adrian peterson, trent richardson, etc.) and freak athletes (clowney, megatron, etc.) could contribute straight out of high school.

Why would the NFL pay millions for a minor league when they have a free one in the NCAA?
