a good example would be Dogfish Head. They seemingly have more special releases and limited seasonals than actual year round brews.
They do a lot of crazy things, but I still get some 90 Minute every trip to Houston. I think they are a good example of a brewery that does have a decent balance of flagship releases and special releases. Maybe not, but they seem to be pretty good about it to me. Maybe it's because the gf loves some 90 Minute and I do too.

You probably have not had that one yet. That is their beer they release at the brewery and it sells out quickly. I happen to have a bottle in the cellar so you will eventually have it though.

Eh, nothing wrong with breweries trying to do new things. It just shouldn't be on the "top 100" list when it's only available once per year. Need a top 100 accessible beers list.
right... I love Speedway stout, but do we really need 4 variants of it in the top 100?

I think they are one of the few breweries who have mapped it out pretty well. Their everyday brews, as a majority, are well above average beers and streamlined to what they do very, very well. They make those and then spend their time creating different brews. Some are misses but they do good job of creating some unique beers. I was thinking of something more along the lines of St. Arnolds. They create shite everyday beers (excluding endeavor), IMO. Now, they have ICON, Bishop Barrell, and Divine Reserve series. The red ICON is shite, and the DR are generally well crafted beers. I can't speak to the BB as I haven't had it. I would prefer a brewery to make a solid everyday brew before spending their time on "specialties", because if you start missing on the specialties and don't have a solid everyday lineup, your business plan is about to start taking a hit.

Similar problem in Cigar City's offerings. Available once a year and in a few variants..

It's very very good. Right up there with the bourbon barrel stouts on this list, in my opinion.

I was pretty sure you would be around in short order to express your approval.

What is the red ICON?
I did manage to get a 6 pack of the first ICON brew, if that's what you are talking about. It is a Belgian Pale Ale, black label with red writing. I was underwhelmed with this one. Made me think that i didn't like Belgian Pale Ale's, but i do love Green Flash's BPA.

DFH may have been a bad example
Brooklyn also has it mapped well. There is one tap release i hop the Avenue Pub gets at some point. The Coffee Infused Stout. I had it at the Hopleaf in Chicago a few years ago. Best coffee stout I've ever had hands down. Probably one of the best stouts I have had as well.

Yep, that's the red Icon. The packaging will be all black and the lettering will be done in the according color.

I love trying the new stuff, but I wonder at what point do these breweries struggle to find a balance. It seems there is a constant flow of new seasonals, specials brewed, etcs that it's easy to forget about the everyday brewed stuff. At what point does your selling of the everyday stuff flatten or decrease to make it non beneficial?
Kind of reminds me of baseball cards in the 90s. They kept trying to come up with special insert cards and hard to find sets to keep people interested.

YES! That and the expense drove me out of the hobby. Beer has somewhat done that as well. I used to spend crazy amounts ordering and trading.

This is a crock of shite and exemplifies everything i dislike about Beer Advocate.
These rankings should be for beers that are actually bottled whether it be year round or seasonal. I know form my times going to Dark Lord Day a few years back, this was never and will never be bottled. I remember guys going there any getting tasting cups of this to pour into swing top bottles to take home.
I don't know why but fanaticism over beers like this just kind of piss me off. Most of those rankings are inflated for trading purposes many times. People review it if its local to drive up the rating, get it pub, so people want to trade for it. How many different versions of the Hunuaphu's stout from cigar city can you have? There is like 4 up there. Its one of the main reasons i got away from BA.
and there are now WAY TO frickING MANY bourbon barrel, wine barrel, maple infused, bacon cured, super yeast fermented, double chocolate, bat shite coffee roasted, super hop strain, and spice infused beers. make something simple and make it right. no need for all this crap.

If I would have saved the money I spent on baseball cards and spend currently on beer, I would own this joint.
