To people saying "the NFL has better players" or "the NFL has more competitive matchups."

No shite. It's the NFL. It's professional football. It's their job. There also aren't 130+ teams that we must filter through to find the champion.

What makes college better FOR ME is multilayered. It's not just the games. It's a given that these are college kids with other responsibilities outside of football. They aren't pros. But you don't just take the game itself. What happens on the field isn't the only variable that contributes to the product as a whole. The atmosphere, bands, tailgating, pregame, school pride, state pride, seeing the same folks you sit next to every game, the constant changing of players, recruiting, the regionality of the game, the players you watched or played against in high school, the fact that the game is played not perfectly (which adds to its intensity) but always with high emotion, the huge swings in momentum as a result, the creativity and variation in offenses, even the arguments that the system perpetuates about who should be ranked where. It's just a more layered and dynamic sport for me personally.

Now, the NFLer would counter with the fact that it is a more perfect form of football, and can be layered with draft analysis and fantasy football, and that's true, but that's just not my thing. And I agree that the post-season is much better. But I hate that when I turn on what should be a great regular season matchup the stadium is half full and dead. I hate that for the most part teams are pretty equally matched and offenses are pretty much the same across the board.

I agree with others that it's almost two different sports. Apples and oranges. There are pros and cons to each. There are just more pros for me with the college game. Way more, actually. I rarely watch a full NFL game with undivided attention.

Teams with losing records (7-9 Seattle) get to play home playoff games in the NFL which is absolutely ridiculous.

makes every game in the regular season count right?

LSU-North Texas games don't matter. Quit kidding yourself, absolutely no chance of beating a good team

You missed the point of what he was saying. If you lose just one game in college football there's a good chance that loss could destroy your hopes of a championship season. If you lose two games your season is practically over. In the NFL you can lose 7 games and still win the Super Bowl. To hell with parity.

I got the point he was trying to make, the first time. Doesn't change that there are only a few teams in the country that can compete with the elite teams. The current system wastes Saturdays by allowing teams yo schedule no ones.

Then add bama going 1-1 last year against those hard teams, and i laugh at that. almost every game in the nfl means something, most college games must become meaningless by the end of the year following the original logic. With a playoff system more games matter imo

I first fell in love with football/sports at about 5 yrs and the NFL was a big part of that. Each year since then I watch less and less of it. I generally watch the SB and other playoff games, though. Especially the Saturday games. Honestly, I think the most excited I get all year for a sporting event on a Sunday would have to be The Masters.

There are 120+ teams in college football. Of those 120 teams, only 10 or 11 teams have a legitimate chance to win it all. That's just the nature of college football. When you have that many teams competing in one league your chances at parity decrease dramatically.

Just like the NFL does for four weeks to start the season and often at least the last weekend if not more. Those Week 17 games were awesome with most playoff seeds locked in.

People really cared about the chiefs and jags other than fantasy and gambling, right?

The Goodel-ization of the NFL has almost destroyed the game. All the rules to protect QBs and WRs have made it a glorified 7 on 7 game. Borderline unwatchable.

Unfortunately, college is heading that way.

I haven't read any of the responses in the last 3 pages, other than your OP. I'm sure someone else has already said it, but I'll chime in with my opinion.

College will always and forever be 100 times better to me than the NFL, simply for the reason that you can't form as much of a connection to a business as you can to a school. No, I'm not saying there aren't die hard NFL fans who live and die with their team. What I'm saying is that you can't go to the University of NO Saints. You can't get a degree from the Saints. You can't go to Saints basketball games, or visit a campus, or live there, etc. There is a profound, lifelong bond formed by attending a school and spending the best years of your life there. You can't get that with a professional team.

Also, there's such hypocrisy with how players are thought of pre/post being traded. T.O. is a perfect example. When he played for the 49ers, there probably wasn't a Cowboys fan on earth that wouldn't mind seeing him break both his legs after the whole "running to the star" incident. Then he gets traded to Dallas and everyone loves him! That's a joke.

Also, sadly in the past 20 years or so CFB has slowly started to be more and more about money and turned into a business, which I'm not a huge fan of. But, at the root of college football, we're still talking about actual colleges and universities with college kids who are playing to represent their school. It means more, there's more pride. The NFL is a business, it'd be like switching jobs from State Farm to Allstate, it's just another job move that doesn't mean anything. Representing your school MEANS something more than just money.

there were plenty of meaningful games in week 17, and they are no more meaningless than a chick-fil-a bowl or LSU-Arkansas matchup

Meh, I watch the NFL but it's bland, boring, and somewhat soulless compared to college. Everything is corporate and even the best fan experiences pale in comparison to even the average college teams. The NFL doesn't have as many blowouts as college football, but that's what makes CFB fun, the differences in the teams. Nothing compares to college football.

In recent years I've slowly lost interest in the NFL. It's just become boring over the years. I barely watched the Super Bowl last year. I can't pinpoint why I've lost interest in the NFL, but I have. I'll follow the Falcons, but that's it.

My interest in college football has never been higher.
