Road House question

This is one of my favorite movies of all time, but I've always wondered where Brad Wesley got his wealth from? I know he ran the liquor trade but it couldn't have made him that much money in that small town. Also, why did none of the business owners ever try to notify state officials about Wesley's illegal activities?
Just food for thought for Road House fans.

he signed Jeff Healey to an exploitative music contract and hit the jackpot with Angel Eyes.

Hard to believe that Jeff Healey, Ben Garazza (Brad Wesley) and Swayze are all dead.
Wade Garrett outlived em all

Saw him in concert in Austin in early 1989...amazing!

In his explanation, when he came to Jasper after the Korean War he started a small business of some sort. He then spent the next few decades courting larger businesses to come to town. I would guess he was simply at the bottom floor of a lot of small business development in the area and everyone wound up in his debt. Then he started the Jasper Development council and demanded the kick backs from the business owners.
During this time he managed to cultivate a base of employment for ex-cons and future villains on Walker Texas Ranger. He would equip them with inconspicuous vehicles (monster trucks), inconspicuous atttire (knife boots) and aviator sunglasses. He would then send them out to do his bidding (wrangling his inappropriately aged work-out whores and doctor ex-girlfriends).

Was Dr. Doc Clay really Wesley's ex gf or just a local beauty that he wanted to be his. She seemed like a good girl I could never see her having anything to do with him.
Wesley's gf in the movie was smoking hot IMO.

Papercutninja ought to write plot synopses for imbd.com! Your post pretty much sums up the rise of Brad Wesley. The protection money paid into the Development/Civic Improvement Fund was the secret to his ill-gotten success.
God forgive me, but I LOVE this movie (and the big haired platinum blonde bimbo).

When my wife asks if I would ever consider moving back to her small hometown, I always say "Yes, but only if I can have monster truck henchman, a three wheeler, a red 1989 Mustang 5.0, a blonde mistress and carte blanche to wreak havoc on the townfolk at will."
She then rolls her eyes, to which I say, "I used to frick guys like you in prison."
Its a hard life for her.
